Job Description: Boys Varsity Volleyball Head Coach
Position Title:Boys Varsity Volleyball Head Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director / School Principal
Location: Dearborn Advanced Technology Academy - Fieldhouse
Schedule: After school hours, approximately 3:30 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday; occasional weekends for games, tournaments, or team events.

Position Summary
The Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach is responsible for developing, organizing, and leading the ATA high school basketball program, including oversight of the Junior Varsity (JV) program and supervision of all assistant coaches on staff. This position provides direction to student-athletes to help them achieve excellence both on and off the court, while fostering an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic achievement. The coach will collaborate closely with school leadership, athletic staff, and families to ensure the success and growth of the basketball program in alignment with ATA's academic and athletic standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball programs, including practices, games, conditioning, and off-season training.
  • Develop and implement game strategies, practice plans, and skill development sessions to enhance team performance.
  • Supervise and mentor assistant coaches, ensuring alignment with the program's philosophy and expectations.
  • Provide leadership and support to the Junior Varsity coaching staff to ensure program continuity and player development.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, positive team culture, and academic accountability among student-athletes.
  • Ensure all student-athletes maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and meet ATA eligibility standards.
  • Coordinate and oversee mandatory study tables for student-athletes, held after school or following practices.
  • Implement mandatory nutritional plans, ensuring student-athletes eat balanced meals after school and following strength & conditioning sessions.
  • Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director, School Operations Manager, and Principal regarding team matters, student-athlete welfare, and scheduling.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, performance, and eligibility records.
  • Represent ATA Athletics positively within the community and at all interscholastic events.

Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or higher level required.
  • Knowledge of MHSAA rules and regulations.
  • Proven ability to teach basketball fundamentals, sportsmanship, leadership, and discipline. Experience working with students in an educational setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of basketball systems, player development, and conditioning methods. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead by example, motivate young athletes, and foster a positive team environment. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and the broader community. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and general computer operations. Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

Work Schedule & Availability
  • Must be available after school dismissal (3:30 PM - 8:00 PM) for practices, games, and team activities.
  • Occasional evenings or weekends required for competitions and tournaments. Must coordinate and run study tables and nutritional sessions as part of the student-athlete development plan.
