Coach - Cross Country and Track & Field

Purpose
Pine Crest School is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and knowledgeable Cross Country and Track & Field Assistant Coaches to lead and develop our student-athletes. This position is ideal for someone passionate about distance running, sprints, field events, and building a positive team culture that emphasizes growth, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and leading daily practices for cross country and track & field teams
  • Develop training programs tailored to student-athletes of varying skill levels
  • Coach athletes in proper techniques for running events, relays, and/or field events
  • Promote physical fitness, teamwork, and personal accountability
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team events
  • Assist in coordinating meet schedules, travel logistics, and event entries
  • Ensure compliance with school, district, and athletic association policies
  • Maintain communication with student-athletes, parents, and school staff
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive team environment
  • Serve as a mentor, offering support and encouraging the mental and physical development of student-athletes
  • Provides for a safe and secure environment as well as practices associated with the sport
  • Promotes individual growth in traits such as teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship at all times
  • Understands and implements all appropriate rules and regulations according to the sport guideline
  • Maintains proper control and discipline in a positive manner by establishing good, wholesome rapport through healthy, professional relationships
  • Instructs student-athletes in the proper care and use of practice facilities, equipment, and uniforms
  • Accompanies and supervises student-athletes during all activities associated with the sport
  • Stays abreast of the latest advances in all facets of the sport
  • Markets and promotes all athletic teams/programs at Pine Crest
  • Supports the philosophy of the Athletic Department
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee

Job Qualifications 

Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum 1 years’ experience in playing or coaching Cross Country or Track & Field  

Strong leadership, motivational skills, and clear verbal/written communication   

Strong knowledge of training principles, conditioning, and injury prevention

Ability to teach, motivate and mentor high school student-athletes

CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Availability for after-school practices and competitions (including some weekends)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience competing in cross country or track & field (college or high school)
Background in strength and conditioning or sports science
