Job description

Are You Ready to Spin the Future of Aerospace Materials?

What if your next role could shape the future of flight, clean energy, and space exploration? Are you a fiber process expert who thrives on turning lab-scale innovation into industrial reality? If you're ready to lead cutting-edge spinning technology development, Hexcel’s opportunity in Decatur, Alabama is calling.

We’re looking for a R&T Spinning Engineer who’s passionate about scaling innovation and driving performance in advanced composite materials. This is your chance to make a global impact—while building something extraordinary.

Why This Role Matters

This isn’t just about fibers—it’s about the future. You’ll be developing new spinning processes and precursor fibers that power the next generation of carbon fiber composites. Your work will directly influence how aircraft fly, how wind turbines generate energy, and how spacecraft reach new frontiers.

What You Will Do

•    Advance Technical Frontiers: Develop and scale new spinning processes and precursor fibers from lab to pilot to full production, ensuring safety and compliance.

•    Accelerate Product Launches: Streamline technology development to reduce time-to-market for new carbon fibers.

•    Drive Improvement: Apply advanced spinning technologies and stay current with scientific literature to fuel continuous improvement.

•    Solve Real Problems: Identify limitations in current approaches and engineer solutions that improve product performance.

•    Collaborate to Innovate: Work cross-functionally to integrate new technologies into production and support key business initiatives.

Your Boarding Pass

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

•     Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or related field (preferred), with 5+ years in fiber process or product development. OR master’s in chemistry with 7+ years of relevant experience.
•     Experience with polyacrylonitrile or solution spinning is highly desired.
•    Proven success in scaling R&D innovations into cost-effective production.
•     Hands-on approach with pilot equipment and strong collaboration with technicians and operators.
•     Ability to lead and contribute to cross-functional teams.

Why Decatur, AL?

It all starts here. Decatur is more than just a manufacturing site—it’s a community of innovators that sets the stage for precision downstream processes at other Hexcel sites. Nestled along the Tennessee River, Decatur offers a blend of Southern charm, outdoor adventure, and a growing tech scene. With a lower cost of living and access to nature, it’s a place where you can build both a career and a life.
