Job description

POSITION SUMMARY The Development Services Department is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Technology Strategist to lead the implementation of key technology projects and solutions across the Department. The Senior Technology Strategist performs advanced professional and technical work involving the research, evaluation, planning, procurement, implementation, and ongoing support of technology solutions. The position partners with Department staff, the City's Information Technology (IT) Department, and external vendors to identify business needs, recommend effective solutions, lead system upgrades and technology initiatives, and ensure projects are successfully delivered.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in project management, application administration, or technology support and will serve as a lead contributor in a collaborative team environment. This role is well suited for a technology professional who enjoys solving complex problems, managing high-impact initiatives, and helping an organization modernize its systems and processes. This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Federation of Public Employees and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Federation of Public Employees.

This is a Management Category II position which includes eight (8) additional Management Vacation Days and a Vehicle Allowance of $340/month. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.

Works closely with the Department Assistant Director and other key Department leaders on solutions planning and strategic initiatives Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of a department-wide project management framework and reporting process Develops cost-benefit analyses and statements Makes recommendations for improvements in information systems methodologies and procedures Develops, documents and implements workflows and procedures Performs analysis and recommends purchases of new technology hardware, software and peripherals Identifies information system problems; develops solutions and recommendations Develops Request for Proposals (RFP) documents, serves as part of evaluation committees and provides narratives for selection recommendation Manages or coordinates technology projects and other initiatives as assigned Coordinates with outside vendors and City customer department personnel to ensure information technology initiatives are completed Develops project deployment schedules, identifies required tasks, and coordinates resource assignments for technology projects and initiatives Participates in various aspects of hardware, software application administration, support and maintenance Coordinates response to technology incidents and communicates response progress to customers and other DSD and IT team members Provides after hours technology support as needed Develops end user training plans and conducts training Maintains current knowledge of emerging technologies, industry practices, and developments in the information technology field Performs related work as required JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other closely related field Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience planning and managing or administering technology related projects or systems. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.

Project management, information technology service management, or related professional certification, such as PMP, CAPM, Scrum, or ITIL. Experience with Accela or a comparable enterprise permitting and land management platform. Experience working in a municipal government, public-sector organization, or similarly complex enterprise environment is preferred.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The position is generally sedentary.
