Job description

Are you a perpetually curious tech-savvy business strategist interested in advising leading companies on complex issues at the intersection of business, technology, and innovation? This opportunity is for you!
About Metis Strategy
Metis Strategy, a management and strategy consulting firm, focused on the intersection of business and technology, continues to grow and is looking for highly motivated individuals to join the San Francisco Bay Area team. We are trusted advisors to Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies, helping them meet their most critical business objectives through tailored engagements and deep professional relationships. We work across industries on topics related to business & digital strategy and navigating organizational change.
At its core, everything we do is oriented around helping our clients succeed in accomplishing their strategic management objectives. With headquarters in the Washington, DC area and offices in Dallas, Texas, and the San Francisco Bay Area, the firm's presence from coast to coast allows us to serve clients throughout the United States and abroad.
As an entrepreneurial and fast-growing firm, we also encourage team members to contribute to the growth of the business in ways that align with their interests, such as developing intellectual property or improving internal capabilities. We reward our team members on merit and hard work, offering an environment where your ambition and diligence can significantly define your career. About this Position
As senior members of our team, Managers are project leaders, thought leaders, people leaders, and key contributors to the growth and development of the firm.
As a Manager, you will lead small teams in helping analyze organizations' current capabilities, evaluate opportunities for improvement, and partner with clients to develop and implement a roadmap to achieve their desired future state vision. Specifically, you will leverage the firm's analytical frameworks and methodologies on various aspects of client engagements, working closely with senior and junior members of the firm to unpack complex situations and develop lasting recommendations for our clients. In particular, you will be responsible for:
  • Leading small teams of junior consultants to complete client engagements by overseeing and conducting primary and secondary research and collecting and analyzing data
  • Creating a structured synthesis and model based on new and established frameworks and methodologies, including the ability to customize these to clients' unique needs
  • Developing clear and concise client presentations and communicating actionable recommendations to executive clients and their teams
  • Providing guidance and structure to Metis Strategy team members and stakeholders in the broader ecosystem, especially in complex, dynamic, and often ambiguous contexts
  • Leading by exemplifying firm culture and by identifying professional development opportunities for fellow team members

In addition to core consulting responsibilities, Metis Strategy offers a unique opportunity for Managers to help grow the intellectual, functional, economic, and geographic footprint of a thriving technology and business advisory firm. For example, Managers might:
  • Provide entrepreneurial and innovative thoughts about how to solidify, grow, and scale a relationship-driven professional services business
  • Help develop new methodologies, frameworks, and other intellectual property
  • Contribute to intellectual capital development by turning research and project-based intellectual property into white papers, articles, and other publishable materials
  • Become involved in or assume leadership for internal tools and capability development

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience: 7 to 10+ years of relevant work experience and demonstrated success working collaboratively in a professional services role, ideally in a business strategy and/or management consulting environment
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in the areas of business, finance, technology, or related fields. A graduate degree is not required but is considered a plus if in a relevant field
  • People Management: A proven track record of working effectively to successfully manage small teams as well as complex workstreams in fast-paced environments with aggressive timelines
  • Location: Located within the Pacific time zone. Day-to-day, we work fully remotely but some clients require us to travel to their offices. We also value time when we can get together as a team and host quarterly in-person offsites to maintain our collaborative culture

What We Look For
  • Leadership: A healthy balance of intellectual curiosity, confidence, humility, creativity, and empathy, with the ability to coach junior team members and senior clients
  • Relevant Experience: Technology and business acumen with concrete examples of having helped companies solve complex business problems using a combination of people, process, and technology solutions
  • Problem Solving: Innovative problem-solving skills and entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to turn ideas into action in pursuit of personal, team, and firm growth targets
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex ideas concisely, tailored appropriately for different audiences (executive to operational) and media (presentations, white papers, emails, etc.)
  • C-Level Interactions: Ability to produce polished and compelling analyses and recommendations for C-level initiatives
  • Relationship Orientation: Willingness to learn from, and collaborate with, others to build strong relationships with clients and team members
  • Motivation: Entrepreneurial grit with an outcome-oriented approach to business and an energetic "roll up your sleeves" mentality
  • Curiosity: High intellectual curiosity and intrinsic interest in, and knowledge of, emerging technologies and their applications in business contexts
  • Work Status: Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship is preferred

What Metis Strategy Has to Offer
