Position Description

The Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Miami's School of Communication is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Professional Practice to teach courses in social media strategy, analytics, influencer, creator, and brand partnerships in our department. This position will commence August 15, 2026. The position entails teaching six courses per academic year, as well as academic advising of undergraduate and graduate students. A master's degree in advertising, public relations, communication, marketing, or related field is required. A minimum of seven to ten years of professional experience in social media strategy and management, influencer marketing, content creation, or related digital campaigns is required.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop and update the curriculum to align with industry practices, advise student projects, and bring real-world experience into the classroom, while maintaining an active profile in the professional field. This role is designed to combine practitioner credentials with strong teaching and mentoring skills to prepare students for careers in social, influencer, and content marketing. The candidate must have expertise and extensive professional experiences in at least three of the following areas: social media campaign implementation and management, analytics, brand partnership, co-marketing, content creation, audience engagement, and influencer strategy in relation to tools, platforms, legal, compliance, and risk management. The candidate also must have the ability to teach core courses in the advertising or public relations program, such as social media messaging and strategies, advertising strategy development, public relations strategy development, and project management. The candidate must be passionate about working with students and must help students with academic advising and career guidance. In addition, the candidate must have strong interests and ability in developing and teaching online and specialized certificate programs. Given Miami's distinctive cultural landscape, experience in entertainment, sports, arts, or fashion is highly desirable.

The Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Miami is dedicated to developing the next generation of creative, analytical, and socially responsible leaders in advertising, public relations, and strategic social media communication. The department offers undergraduate majors and minors in Advertising and Public Relations, a Master of Arts in each discipline, and a minor in Strategic Social Media Communication.
