What You'll Do:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

The Rotating Operations and Sales Intern Program blends the operations and sales sides of the scrap metal recycling business. The goal of the program is to thoroughly learn all facets of the scrap metal recycling industry from the ground up and understand what a career in scrap metal recycling could look like after graduation.

Interns learn alongside operations teammates and leaders to build fundamental knowledge of material identification, daily operations, supply chain, logistics, and transportation. Interns also shadow commercial teammates to learn how customer relationships are developed, grown, and maintained to create business opportunities.

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in daily safety meetings and uphold safety, housekeeping, and operational standards.
  • Learn scrap metal identification, processing, quality control, and inventory practices.
  • Rotate through operations, transportation, logistics, and commercial functions.
  • Support daily facility operations, including material receiving and inbound and outbound coordination.
  • Shadow commercial teammates during supplier and customer visits.
  • Assist with market research, prospect identification, customer follow-up, and sales preparation.
  • Learn how market conditions, material grades, pricing, and logistics influence business decisions.
  • Review operational or commercial data and recommend improvements to safety, productivity, cost, or customer service.
  • Complete a summer-long business project and present recommendations to division leadership.
  • Build effective working relationships across departments and participate in team meetings and strategic-planning activities.

  • Rising junior or senior working toward a bachelor's degree.
  • Strong organization, adaptable, team-oriented, and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate, and work efficiently with team members.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel frequently.
  • Willingness to work outside in extreme weather conditions in an industrial environment.
  • Willingness to relocate post-graduation.

  • Previous internship experience.
