Job description

The Construction Surveyor will report to the Director of Construction. The Construction Surveyor will measure, inspect, update, and document property boundaries using specialized surveying instruments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Use surveying technology for topographic, boundary, and construction layout land surveying.
• Record, and preserve accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
• Perform field calculations.
• Ability to read and interpret existing Alta surveys and other 3rd party survey documents.
• Perform survey grid layout for post pinning.
• Validate per plan installation of BMPs and erosion & sediment features.
• Ability to problem solve in the field to adjust grades to achieve positive drainage.
• As built surveying post construction for final engineering drawings.
• Coordinate and compose construction strategies and locations of important features of the project (wetlands, historical preservation sites, and other sensitive areas preconstruction).
• Ability to use AutoCAD and/or Trimble is a plus.
• Act as QA/QC of all project surveys.
• Work with Engineering and Procurement on Site layouts.
• Support the development of Self Perform Civil Division.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies throughout construction to ensure compliance with permits.
• Verify calculations for gathering physical survey data, document technical design details, analyze physical, survey, or geographic data, survey land to measure or determine features, determine operational criteria or specifications. calibrate scientific or technical equipment, calculate geographic positions from survey data.
• Be knowledgeable of SWPPP, SPCC and environmental best practices.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Construction and VP of Construction.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Surveyor will supervise a survey crew.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field- (Preferred).
  • Survey License – (Required)
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years' experience in Construction Survey, Dimensional Control, Industrial Measurement, or a related field is required
  • Understanding of current civil engineering standards and practices.
  • Understanding of SWPP, SPCC and BMPs.
  • SWPP certification a plus.
  • Proficient preparing and reviewing bid packages.
  • Comfortable presenting to and interacting with consultants, AHJ, and subcontractors.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

The majority of this work is performed in a field environment and requires travel/overnight stays. Will be required to perform physical labor. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift to 30 pounds.
