Job description

City of Stoughton - Utility Automation/SCADA Specialist

Stoughton, Wis.

WPPI Energy is posting this job opening on behalf of the City of Stoughton.

Stoughton Utilities is seeking a skilled and innovative Utility Automation/SCADA Specialist to support and advance the technologies that power our electric, water, and wastewater operations. This highly technical role oversees the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of essential automation platforms—including SCADA systems, the Outage Management System (OMS), and a variety of control, networking, and data systems. If you’re passionate about system automation, strategic problem-solving, and contributing to reliable community utilities, this is an exciting opportunity to use your skills in a dynamic environment.

In this position, you will program and deploy SCADA components, maintain OMS workflows and customer‑facing tools, troubleshoot alarms and system events, and coordinate upgrades to hardware, software, and cybersecurity protections. You’ll collaborate with utility teams across electric, water, and wastewater divisions, support field staff, develop documentation, provide system training, and assist with planning and integration of new technologies. From motor control systems to networked field devices, your work will ensure seamless operation and continuous improvement of mission‑critical infrastructure.

This position does not require travel outside of the Stoughton service area.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related training, along with experience in SCADA, utility operations, or industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of automation protocols, PLC/RTU configuration, networking, scripting, and platforms such as AVEVA InTouch, AspenTech OSI monarch, SEL, and Rockwell Automation is preferred.

Candidates must be able to pass required pre-employment background checks, a physical and drug screen, and possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and reliable transportation.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a pay rate of $50.00 per hour. The role includes an excellent benefits package, including participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).

THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
