To thrive as a Storyboard Intern, you need a solid understanding of visual storytelling, drawing skills, and a background in animation or related education. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Photoshop, Storyboard Pro, or Toon Boom is typically expected. Strong communication, creativity, and attention to detail help you effectively convey ideas and collaborate with the production team. What is a storyboard internship?

A storyboard internship is a temporary position, often held by students or recent graduates, where individuals learn and assist with creating storyboards for films, television shows, advertisements, or animations. Interns work under the guidance of professional storyboard artists to visually plan out scenes, sequences, and camera angles before production begins. The internship offers hands-on experience in translating scripts into visual storytelling, using both traditional drawing and digital tools. It is an excellent opportunity to build a portfolio and gain industry contacts.

What typical responsibilities can I expect during a Storyboard Internship, and how do these tasks contribute to the animation pipeline?

As a storyboard intern, you'll likely assist with creating and revising storyboards, participating in team meetings, and providing visual interpretations of scripts under the guidance of senior artists. Your day-to-day tasks may include sketching key scenes, preparing presentation boards, and making adjustments based on feedback from directors or writers. These responsibilities are crucial, as storyboards serve as the blueprint for the animation process, ensuring clear communication of visual storytelling between departments. This collaborative experience will help you develop essential skills and gain insight into the full production pipeline.
