Story Assistant information

What is a story assistant?

Story Assistants are professionals who support writers, producers, or creative teams in developing, organizing, and refining narrative content for various media, such as television, film, or digital platforms. Their responsibilities often include taking detailed notes during writers' meetings, tracking story arcs, maintaining continuity, and preparing script drafts or revisions. By handling these tasks, Story Assistants help ensure smooth communication and workflow throughout the creative process, allowing writers and producers to focus on storytelling. They play a critical role in keeping projects organized and on schedule.

How does a story assistant typically collaborate with writers and editors during the development of a narrative project?

As a Story Assistant, you’ll work closely with writers and editors to support the creative process throughout all stages of development. Your responsibilities may include conducting research, organizing story materials, drafting outlines, tracking revisions, and ensuring that continuity is maintained across drafts. Collaboration often involves attending brainstorming sessions, providing feedback, and helping to manage deadlines, making strong communication and organizational skills essential. This role offers a behind-the-scenes look at narrative creation and can be a great stepping stone to more senior writing or editing positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a story assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Story Assistant, you need a solid grasp of story structure, research skills, and attention to detail, typically supported by a background in writing, film, or media studies. Familiarity with industry-standard scriptwriting software (such as Final Draft), collaborative tools like Google Workspace, and content management systems is often required. Strong communication, organization, and adaptability help Story Assistants efficiently support writers, track revisions, and manage production timelines. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring smooth story development processes and effective coordination within creative teams.

What is the difference between Story Assistant vs Script Coordinator?

Summary

The Michigan Internal Communications Specialist or Senior Specialist position would support Chobani's efforts to reach, inform, and engage employees through a variety of channels, with a primary focus on the company's growing Michigan manufacturing presence. Based in the Norton Shores / Muskegon area, the ideal candidate will be a confident storyteller, content developer, and hands-on communicator responsible for reinforcing Chobani's mission, celebrating the La Colombe and Chobani culture, and helping employees understand the company's investment in Michigan plant operations, capacity, and future growth.

The role would serve as the first dedicated communications team presence in Michigan and would partner closely with local site leadership, frontline teams, Communications colleagues, and business stakeholders. While the primary focus would be internal communications, the role would also provide on-site support for external communications and media opportunities as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Source, capture, and produce impactful stories that inform, serve, and engage Michigan employees through email, photo, video, digital signage, print, leader talking points, and other internal channels.
  • Plan and execute site communications in partnership with Michigan leaders and stakeholders, ensuring employees receive timely, relevant, and locally grounded information.
  • Support communications related to the company's Michigan plant expansion, capacity growth, employee growth, and broader investment in the site.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain a system for capturing key cultural moments, employee stories, recognition opportunities, site milestones, and celebrations in partnership with internal stakeholders.
  • Capture multimedia content at internal company events, employee engagement activities, community activations, and other moments that help tell the Michigan story.
  • Assist in crafting internal messaging that is strategic, timely, clear, and consistent with Chobani's brand voice and style.
  • Work with Michigan departments, site leaders, and frontline teams to share news and information through effective print, digital, visual, and verbal communications.
  • Serve as a communications point of contact for Michigan site leadership, helping identify communications needs, employee questions, and opportunities to strengthen engagement.
  • Provide limited support for external communications and local media opportunities as needed, including helping coordinate site visits, gathering local proof points, supporting photo/video needs, and liaising with Communications colleagues.
  • Support key Communications & Impact efforts and other business projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree required; communications-related degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience in communications, employee engagement, manufacturing communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a similar role; additional experience may support Senior Specialist level consideration.
  • Strong written, verbal, visual, and multimedia communications skills.
  • Proven ability to capture and create photo and video content.
  • Ability to develop and execute communications plans, programs, and initiatives in partnership with site leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Passion for working with people, building relationships, and telling impactful employee and culture stories.
  • Comfort working in a manufacturing environment and communicating with employees across shifts, functions, and roles.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated, with strong time management, prioritization, and follow-through skills.
  • Basic understanding of external communications, local media coordination, or community storytelling preferred.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work flexible hours, including some weekends or off-shift events as needed.
