Job description

Locations: (Sioux City, IA (or surrounding area), Minneapolis, MN, Omaha, NE, Kansas City, MO, Des Moines, IA)

Hazen and Sawyer has an exceptional opportunity for a Construction Manager to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure. Duties include management of the construction, coordination, documentation, and inspection activities for various water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure. Travel within the area may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting on-site observations, monitoring, inspection, and evaluation of construction activities of water/wastewater facility projects
  • Managing and preparing requests for proposals, verifying material quantities, and reviewing payment applications
  • Coordinating and communicating with multi-discipline Hazen teams, owner, contractor, and third-party inspection/testing firms
  • Reviewing and interpreting Contract Documents including project specifications and drawings
  • Verifying and tracking work in accordance with approved shop drawing submittals
  • Assisting in the processing and review of RFIs and shop drawings prepared by the Contractor
  • Preparing sketches and assembling data for the Design Engineer's use
  • Observing Contractor performance and compliance with safety requirements
  • Assisting and coordinating with project start-up, testing, checkout, and training activities
  • Coordinating and facilitating communication between the Contractor, the Design Engineer, the Facility Managers, and the Owner
  • Reviewing Contractor’s schedules, monthly pay estimates, and managing the review of change orders
  • Using cloud-based software for project documentation such as PROCORE, Unifier e-Builder, Autodesk Construction Cloud, etc
  • Interfacing with clients and performing client management activities
  • Assisting Hazen engineering design teams to provide constructability reviews and VE reviews

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:

  • Minimum 10 years of water / wastewater treatment facility construction experience.
  • Professional Engineer License in Minnesota or Iowa
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM)

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferably candidates will have an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; minimum 10 years of general experience in construction administration and observation. Candidate with water or wastewater facility construction experience in lieu of the aforementioned degree will be given equal consideration.

Candidates will be based onsite in Sioux City, IA at a local construction field office for at least two weeks per month as an initial assignment. Other projects across Minnesota and the upper Midwest are expected to follow.
