What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in storm response roles, and how can they prepare for them?

Professionals in storm work often face unpredictable and hazardous conditions, including severe weather, long hours, and rapidly changing priorities. Common challenges include ensuring personal safety, coordinating with multiple teams under pressure, and adapting to evolving situations on the ground. To prepare, job seekers should focus on physical fitness, regular safety training, and developing strong communication skills. Familiarity with emergency response protocols and the ability to stay calm under stress are also key to success in this demanding field.

What is storm work?

Storm work refers to the tasks and responsibilities performed by workers who respond to and repair damage caused by severe weather events, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, or thunderstorms. This type of work often involves utility workers, electricians, tree service professionals, and emergency responders who restore power, clear debris, and ensure public safety. Storm work is typically urgent, physically demanding, and may require long hours under hazardous conditions to restore normalcy to affected communities.

The Opportunity

Storm Creek apparel is already on the shelves at well-known resorts, airports, national parks, golf courses, and outdoor retailers. We're now expanding our sales team to capture our incredible brand potential!

This is a heavy business development focused role. You'll be building target lists, knocking on doors, pitching buyers at trade shows, and building relationships that turn a single order into a long-term account. You'll be leading with our great brand story.

Storm Creek is B-Corp certified, women-owned, and on a mission to hit $5 million in charitable donations by 2030. We make sustainably-crafted apparel that belongs in the places you're already dreaming about visiting. If you're the kind of person who gets energized by the road, thrives on the hunt, and loves closing deals in places most people only visit on vacation.

What You'll Do

  • Grow our retail network by prospecting and winning new accounts at outdoor retailers, resorts, boutiques/menswear stores, airport retailers, gift shops, and other specialty venues.
  • Manage and deepen relationships with existing accounts- ensuring reorders, strong sell-through, and account satisfaction.
  • Plan and execute your own territory strategy, prioritizing high-potential targets and managing a national travel calendar.
  • Represent Storm Creek at trade shows and industry events, building your network and the brand's presence.
  • Keep CRM records current and use data to sharpen your approach and report on pipeline.
  • Collaborate with our existing sales and sales support teamwto share learnings and close the loop on customer needs.

Who You Are

The right fit here is someone who thrives in the field, loves the hunt of a new account, and can build trust with buyers quickly. Specifically, we're looking for:

  • Experience in B2B/wholesale apparel sales and territory account management- you know how to manage a pipeline and close.
  • A background in apparel with specialty retail, outdoor, lifestyle, hospitality channels. You understand how apparel buyers think.
  • A self-starter who can own their territory without needing hand-holding- and someone who communicates proactively when things shift.
  • Comfortable with sustained travel (regional and national) and all the independence that comes with it.
  • Engaging storytelling savviness- via phone, video meetings, and in person.
  • Strong relationship skills- you're personable, credible, and buyers want to hear from you again.
  • CRM-literate and organized enough to keep your pipeline clean and your follow-up tight.
  • Genuine alignment with our mission: sustainability, purpose, and doing business the right way.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary of $60,000–$80,000 depending on experience, plus a commission structure that rewards new sales account growth. Strong performers can meaningfully exceed the base.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and disability coverage
  • 401(k)
  • 15 vacation days + 8 company holidays
  • 8 paid volunteer hours annually
  • Travel budget for national accounts and trade shows
