Job description

Position Description This position announcement will be used to fill a Full-Time, Permanent, Represented Storekeeper II vacancy within the Highways Division of the Department of Public Works with Anne Arundel County Government. This is responsible and varied secretarial work involving the performance of delegated administrative details. NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK Work involves responsibility for providing secretarial services requiring the exercise of initiative, independent judgment, and discretion in handling delegated administrative details and the performance of clerical duties.

Guidance and direction may be provided over lower level clerical workers. New assignments and changes in policies and procedures are received in general outline, and employees are expected to proceed with minimum supervision. Advice and assistance are normally available.

Work is reviewed for the achievement of desired results and adherence to established policies and procedures. Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. They are not intended to include all of the essential functions of all positions in the class.) Performs a variety of office administration tasks in relieving a superior of administrative details

Maintains budget accounts; establishes and maintains complex filing systems; plans and maintains an adequate supply of office materials and supplies; relays complex and important instructions and messages. Arranges appointment and meeting schedules; screens and refers callers, providing detailed responses to information requests about programs and activities; makes travel arrangements. Prepares and composes correspondence in accordance with established policies and procedures; types a variety of materials, including administrative and public reports for reproduction and distribution; prepares complex work sheets and tables; makes various mathematical computations.

Attends and takes minutes of meetings and conferences; composes drafts of proceedings; prepares agenda and materials in accordance with established practices. Maintains files of proposed county and state legislation; attends legislative committee meetings; notifies county department heads of legislation that may affect their operations. Serves as legal secretary; takes and transcribes dictation of a legal nature; types various legal documents and related legal materials; maintains trial calendars.

Maintains various records on office activities pertaining to personnel, purchasing, travel expenses, and related activities. Performs related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of secretarial practices and procedures.

Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, and vocabulary. Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, systems, and equipment. Considerable knowledge of the particular department's activities and responsibilities.

Knowledge of general county operations and organization. Skill in the operation of typewriters, standard office equipment, and in the taking and transcribing of oral dictation in those positions for which it is a requirement. Ability to perform responsible secretarial duties.

Ability to make moderately complex decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ability to maintain administrative, fiscal, and general records, and to prepare reports and answer questions from records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and other county departments.

Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from high school. Experience: Two (2) or more years experience in the keeping of warehouses and warehouse records.

Additional Requirements: A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license. NOTE: This is a Safety Sensitive position and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol testing. NOTE: Longevity pay is available based on years of service.

NOTE: This position may involve working the night shift from 3:30 P.M. to Midnight. Supplemental Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants with the following: 1.) Experience working with electronic Payroll Systems such as E-time Automated Data Processing (ADP) or a related automated payroll system

2.) Experience using Enterprise One or a related financial, purchasing, and/or inventory system. 3.) Proficiency using Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. 4.) Experience providing effective customer service

5.) Ability to work overtime.
