These roles typically include cashiers, sales associates, greeters, and customer service representatives. Responsibilities often involve assisting customers, handling transactions, restocking merchandise, and maintaining the appearance of the store. Storefront jobs require good communication skills and a customer-friendly attitude, as they are essential for providing a positive shopping experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a storefront associate?

To thrive as a Storefront Associate, you need strong customer service skills, basic math abilities, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and cash handling procedures is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and a friendly attitude help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure efficient operations, positive customer experiences, and contribute to the store's overall success.

What are some common challenges faced by storefront employees, and how can they effectively manage them?

Job description

SUMMARY

Buff City Soap's eCommerce platform is core to how we serve customers across our fast-growing franchise network, and it's evolving fast. We operate a best-in-class Shopify Plus site that delivers a seamless brand experience alongside our ~200-store brick-and-mortar footprint, bringing the same retail theater that defines our stores to every customer touchpoint, especially online. Same-day, ship-from-store, and BOPIS fulfillment run across hundreds of locations through this platform, and we're growing it further through site optimization, social and influencer channels, and emerging partnerships like Amazon. We need a developer who can own the platform end-to-end, someone who writes clean Liquid and JavaScript, understands the Shopify ecosystem deeply, and wants to work close to the business logic that makes omnichannel retail actually work, not on an island, but a core part of our overall customer offering, extending the brand experience with every release.

This is a hands-on, build-and-own role. You'll have real ownership of the storefront and the freedom to bring better ways of doing things to the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPlatform & Storefront
  • Design, build, and maintain custom Shopify Plus themes and templates aligned to business and brand needs
  • Write clean, well-documented code in Shopify Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • Manage store configuration: product catalog, collections, navigation, and promotions
  • Optimize site speed and performance through code efficiency and caching
Integrations & Fulfillment
  • Implement and configure Shopify apps and third-party integrations, working directly with vendor APIs to customize functionality
  • Support fulfillment channels including BOPIS, ship-from-store, and same-day delivery, including OMS, inventory, and ERP integrations
  • Partner with the eCommerce and technology teams on AI-powered order routing and SLA logic as we extend automation across the fulfillment network
Quality & Reliability
  • Test and debug across devices and browsers to ensure performance and compatibility
  • Monitor site traffic, user behavior, and conversion data to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Conduct regular security reviews to protect customer data and platform integrity
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website issues, bugs, and compatibility conflicts
Collaboration
  • Work cross-functionally with design, marketing, operations, and technology to bring initiatives to life
  • Translate technical concepts clearly for non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay current on Shopify Plus platform updates and eCommerce best practices
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
  • Strong proficiency in Shopify Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • Hands-on experience with the Shopify API (GraphQL) and third-party app integration
  • Experience with Shopify Plus payment gateways, inventory management, and checkout configuration
  • Solid understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development
  • Proficiency with Git or similar version control
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Clear communicator who can work well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
  • Experience with React and/or Node.js
  • General familiarity with Ruby, Python, or PHP
  • Experience implementing BOPIS, ship-from-store, or same-day delivery technical workflows, including OMS/inventory/ERP integrations
  • Exposure to full-stack web application development
  • Background working within a multi-location or franchise retail environment
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
  • Sedentary work with extended periods at a computer; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
  • In-person collaboration required at the Addison, TX Support Center

Compensation is based on skills, experience, and market data. Range provided upon application.
