What is a store reset?

A Store Reset job involves rearranging products, shelving, and displays within a retail store to follow updated layouts or marketing plans. This process may include moving merchandise, replacing signage, assembling fixtures, and ensuring items are placed correctly per a planogram. Store resets are typically done by teams during non-business hours to minimize disruption. The goal is to improve store organization, product visibility, and overall shopping experience.

What does a typical shift look like for someone working in store reset?

A typical shift in a Store Reset role often involves working during off-hours or overnight to rearrange product displays, stock shelves, and ensure store layouts match the latest planogram specifications. Team members collaborate closely and sometimes perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, moving fixtures, and organizing merchandise. The work is fast-paced and deadline-driven, requiring careful coordination to complete resets efficiently before the store reopens to customers. Successfully completing these resets keeps stores looking fresh and helps improve shopping experiences for customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the store reset position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Store Reset role, you need strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and experience with product merchandising and planogram compliance. Familiarity with handheld inventory scanners, planogram software, and basic safety protocols is commonly required. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and clear communication help individuals excel in ever-changing retail environments. These skills are critical for efficiently transforming store layouts to meet business objectives while minimizing disruptions for customers and staff.

SFS is growing, and we're looking for experienced Retail Merchandisers to join our nationwide network of independent contractors. This is an excellent opportunity for self-motivated professionals seeking flexible, supplemental income while servicing some of the nation's largest retailers and brands.

Our clients provide service windows rather than specific work schedules, allowing you a flexible schedule that works for you while meeting project requirements.

Assignments may include merchandising, product resets, cut-ins, inventory audits, display maintenance, POP installation, product stocking, and other retail support activities. Typical projects range from 12–20 hours per month, with some retailer locations requiring service during the first two weeks of each month.

If you enjoy working independently, staying active, and delivering high-quality retail execution, we'd love to connect with you.

Why Contract with SFS?

  • Set your own schedule
  • Choose the projects that fit your availability
  • Supplemental income opportunities
  • Competitive project-based pay
  • DailyPay available (enrollment required)
  • Ongoing merchandising, reset, and retail support projects
  • Opportunities to service multiple retailers and brands

What You'll Do

  • Review project instructions and client expectations before each assignment
  • Execute merchandising projects according to client requirements
  • Perform product resets, cut-ins, display maintenance, and promotional installations
  • Remove discontinued or outdated products and materials
  • Conduct inventory counts and product scanning activities
  • Stock and organize merchandise according to planograms and merchandising standards
  • Ensure displays are clean, organized, and accurately presented
  • Travel between retail locations as desired and accepted
  • Complete required reporting, including photos and project documentation, using a mobile device
  • Submit project completion reports on the same day services are performed

Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous merchandising, retail, reset, auditing, or customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to read and execute planograms and merchandising instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable using mobile technology for reporting and project documentation
  • Available to complete assignments during retailer service windows, primarily weekday daytime hours
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds repeatedly
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and stand for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation for travel between assigned retail locations
  • Smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS) with internet access
  • Active email address for project communication and reporting
  • Ability to submit project completion reports and photos on the same day work is performed
