Dairy Manager

Primary responsibilities

  • To initiate and/or make recommendation regarding the hiring, firing, discipline, promotion and evaluation of all Dairy Department personnel.  To orient and train all new Dairy Department employees and retrain employees when necessary.
  • To develop a weekly labor schedule for all Dairy Department employees for the approval of the store manager.
  • Maintain company standards for perishables and stay up to date on all active safety procedures
  • Transportation and stocking of goods within department
  • Ensuring Health and Safety Codes, checking for pricing and expiration, and maintaining an organizational standard area.
  • To check, record, and retain cooler/freezer temperatures and maintenance
  • To follow the weekly display plan for case merchandising and ad promotion.
  • Stay up to date and in congruence with Health and Safety standards, as well as holding a working knowledge of cleaning supplies and various chemicals and machines within the department
  • To order all dairy products and supplies from authorized vendors to minimize out-of-stocks while maintaining the desired bakery turns
  • Ability to comprehend and provide complex verbal instructions and descriptions concerning store policy and procedures, and usage of equipment.
  • To supervise/perform organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, verify the merchandise against the invoice, inspect the delivery for shortages/damage and quality, sort cases for stocking or product preparation and code-date all case items in the cooler/freezer.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Dairy Department Manager reports directly to the Store Manager.

Qualifications

  • Basic Mathematics (Add, subtract, multiply, divide)
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Prior dairy experience

Specific tasks

  • Lift, twist, move and carry a maximum of 50 lbs., from the floor to shelving, or overhead racks in the store and cooler/freezer
  • Maintain active signage and pricing in all departmental areas
  • Care for signs, banners, and debris from daily operations
  • Accurately and efficiently handle cash, debit/credit, EBT/WIC, coupons, and vouchers
  • Respond to customers, coworkers, and vendor questions and responses promptly and politely
  • Proper usage of store phone and intercom systems
  • To supervise/perform the checking of case and cooler temperatures 4 times daily utilizing the time keeping system to record each check.

Work Environment Note:

Inside work with transitions of heat/cold/humidity/dust from backdoor/compressors/cooler/freezer/preparation area.
