Position Summary
The Assistant Store Manager for Starboard Shop supports the overall operation and success of one of The Sea Pines Resort's signature retail locations. Working closely with the Store Manager, this position helps lead daily operations, drive sales performance, maintain visual merchandising standards, and deliver exceptional guest service that reflects the resort's commitment to excellence.
The ideal candidate is a service-oriented retail professional with strong leadership skills, a passion for hospitality, and the ability to create memorable shopping experiences for guests while supporting a high-performing retail team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Experience
  • Deliver exceptional guest service by creating a welcoming and engaging shopping environment.
  • Build positive relationships with guests through personalized interactions and product knowledge.
  • Address guest inquiries, concerns, and special requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support The Sea Pines Resort's commitment to Forbes Travel Guide service standards and luxury hospitality.
  • Ensure every guest leaves with a positive impression of both Starboard Shop and The Sea Pines Resort.

Leadership & Team Support
  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing retail associates.
  • Provide daily direction and coaching to team members.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and guest-focused work environment.
  • Support scheduling and staffing needs to ensure operational effectiveness.
  • Serve as Manager-on-Duty in the absence of the Store Manager.

Retail Operations
  • Assist with daily opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment.
  • Support compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and cash-handling standards.
  • Monitor store conditions and resolve operational issues as needed.
  • Help maintain accurate records and operational documentation.

Sales & Performance
  • Support achievement of sales goals and key performance metrics.
  • Encourage effective selling behaviors and guest engagement among team members.
  • Monitor sales trends and identify opportunities to increase revenue.
  • Assist with labor management and expense control efforts.
  • Participate in implementing promotional and seasonal retail initiatives.

Merchandising & Inventory
  • Execute visual merchandising standards that enhance the guest experience and drive sales.
  • Assist with receiving, stocking, and merchandising products.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs.
  • Participate in inventory counts and stock audits.
  • Ensure merchandise displays remain organized, attractive, and aligned with brand standards.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing reports related to sales, inventory, and operational performance.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with retail leadership and resort departments.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and company initiatives.

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of retail supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong guest service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and support a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, Hospitality, or a related field.
  • Experience in resort, hospitality, luxury, or specialty retail environments.
  • Knowledge of apparel, gifts, accessories, and lifestyle retail merchandising.
  • Experience supporting Forbes Travel Guide or luxury service standards.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders as needed.
