Job description

About the Role Working within the Cougars Campus Store, this is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. This position provides key operational support and customer service for daily functions across the physical and digital operations of the bookstore. Our Campus Store Associates are expected to be engaged, connected, and adaptable as they assist students, faculty, staff, and the general public with their needs, whether those needs are related to textbook information, general retail purchases, or online order fulfillment.

Associates are responsible for delivering friendly, knowledgeable, and exceptional service in all actions and interactions, which could range from processing transactions on the tills and providing customer assistance on the sales floor (including the textbook information desk and apparel section) to fulfilling and packaging online orders, assisting with receiving shipments, and stocking merchandise in the backroom. Along with ensuring the store is neat, tidy, and an inviting retail environment, Associates provide customers an exemplary campus store experience while maintaining MRU's core values. The Associates' key areas of focus are on providing an excellent experience in all areas, including, but not limited to, point-of-sale transactions, greeting customers, general sales floor service, and efficient stockroom operations.

Under the direction of campus store management, Associates work as a team and are often the first point of contact for customers; they need to be friendly, adaptable, dynamic, engaged, and possess excellent communication skills, all while modeling MRU's service values. Responsibilities Operating the Registers Perform point-of-sale (POS) transactions quickly and accurately using the till system for all purchases, including textbooks, apparel, supplies, and general merchandise, in accordance with established cash control procedures. Process various forms of payment, including cash, credit/debit cards, gift cards, and Onecards, ensuring adherence to all financial and transactional guidelines.

Maintain security and integrity of transactions by accurately inspecting currency for counterfeit bills and verifying each PIN pad receipt to ensure the transaction was properly approved before completing the sale. Operational Store Support Execute key stockroom operations, including picking, packing, and shipping online orders efficiently and accurately to ensure timely delivery to customers. Assist with receiving new shipments of merchandise, verifying contents against invoices, and inspecting items for damage.

Organize and stock inventory on the sales floor and in the stockroom, ensuring merchandise is correctly shelved, tagged, and priced according to current merchandising standards. Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized retail and stockroom environment, performing general cleanup around the store as required to enhance the shopping experience. Contribute to the merchandising efforts by assisting with signage placement, seasonal display changes, and ensuring the sales floor remains consistently stocked.

Customer Service Provide a high-level customer experience on the sales floor in all retail sections, with a specific focus on the textbook area and apparel section. Greet customers as they walk into the store, particularly in the apparel section, and proactively engage them to determine their needs and guide them to products. Assist customers (students, staff, faculty, general public) with all general inquiries, providing product knowledge and directional information related to textbooks, apparel, and general merchandise.

Proactively resolve customer concerns or escalate complex issues to management, while striving for high customer satisfaction. Support the campus store's brand by maintaining a neat, clean, and organized sales floor, ensuring the environment is welcoming and presentable for all employees and customers.
