Job description

SUMMARY:

The Store Assistant Manager assists in the day-to-day store operations. The Store Assistant Manager is responsible for supervising all store personnel in the Store Manager’s absence. The Store Assistant Manager works in conjunction with the Store Manager to be a driving force in achieving established revenue goals, while optimizing the level of production within budgeted expenses to maximize collections, production, sales, salvage, and customer service. The Store Assistant Manager must provide support services by working with individuals with disabilities or disadvantages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist the Store Manager in the day-to-day operations of the store.
  2. Assist in supervision of store employees and volunteers.
  3. Assist in maximizing collections, production, sales, salvage, and customer service.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Store Manager with the completion of accurate sales, production, inventory, quality, donor, and tracking records. Daily, weekly, and monthly reports are to be completed accurately and timely.
  2. Ensures the timely processing of donations received at the store. Works closely with store management and other associates to ensure donations reach the sales floor in a timely manner following SOP’s for every operation.
  3. Ensures maximum sales performance through proper stock rotation, display, signage, and inventory levels. Ensures that store meets or exceeds sales and daily production goals on a consistent basis.
  4. Ensures that the store is presenting quality customer service to all shoppers, donors, and employees.
  5. Ensures the cleanliness and image of store, proper attention is given to the sales floor (appearance, cleanliness, shopping environment, floor care, fitting room, cash register, customer service areas, aisles, trash cans, lights, restrooms, showcases, window ledges and doors.)  Ensure doors, odor control, cash registers, vending machines, fire extinguishers, and restrooms are in proper working order.
  6. Securely manages cash, cash receipts, and assists with preparing bank deposits for armored services pick up. Ensures the security of the safe combination, keys to the store as assigned and all aspects of store operations.
  7. Reports all unusual or suspicious occurrences as they happen and are brought to the attention through the proper chain of command (i.e., HR, Safety Loss Prevention, and Store Manager).
  8. Assists in the completion of employee work performance evaluations and provides feedback to both the employee and Store Manager.
  9. Coordinates, communicates transportation, and maintenance needs to the appropriate individuals; and tracking and reporting inventories.
  10. Assists in the preparation of the employee weekly work and break schedule. Sets up and implements a daily work assignment schedule to ensure that all work is performed regularly.
  1. Ensures proper operation of store security including, but not limited to door locks, alarms, office door, bank deposits, and refunds, safe and incident reports. Ensures proper cash handling, enforcement of cash register procedures and submission of required reports.
  2. Communicates appropriately with customers and assists them as needed.
  3. Assists in the recruitment and selection process as needed.
  4. Assists in maintenance and ordering of supplies.
  5. Assist in the proper rotation of aged textiles and hard goods in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  6. Assesses the quality of all merchandise received from production and adjust prices, as necessary.
  7. Observe customers to reduce pilferage of Goodwill property.
  8. Properly completes timecards, weekly processing reports, program participants’ reports if necessary and employee documentation.
  9. Keeps abreast of merchandise knowledge, industry trends, and competitive pricing.
  10. Assists in maintaining the appearance of building exterior and parking lot, including but not limited to windows, doors, sidewalks, parking lot lights, dumpster area, landscape, shopping cart retrieval, store entry, and signage.
  11. Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly store processing area, good housekeeping, and work environment.
  12. Assists the Store Manager with HR reports; personnel status changes, PTO forms, accidents and incidents reports, and rehabilitation information are communicated accurately and in a timely manner.
  13. Effectively manages the assigned store to ensure proper adherence by the store staff to policies and procedures. Utilizes Human Resources (HR) to effectively maintain discipline and coaching.
  14. Greets every customer with “Good Morning (Afternoon)” as they routinely perform their duties, offers assistance as indicated and thanks them for their purchase.
  15. Maintains acceptable attendance, personal hygiene, and dress code standards including wearing company issued name badges.
  16. Implements and maintains compliance of pertinent CARF accreditation standards for both departmental and agency requirements.
  17. Follows all company and department policies and procedures.
  18. Demonstrates excellent work habits for employees and program participants, maintaining a good attitude towards the operation of the entire facility, and is a positive role model for individuals receiving rehabilitation services.
  19. Ensures all safety rules are adhered to, and the general upkeep of area meets the standards of Goodwill Industries of El Paso, Inc. Reports accidents or injuries immediately.
  20. Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding Goodwill Industries of El Paso, Inc. and persons receiving services.
  21. Assists in other areas as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Sufficient knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting to maintain simple store records.
  3. Minimum of (3) years of progressively responsible experience in retail and production settings. Must include supervisory experience.
  4. Knowledgeable in merchandising and industry trends.
  5. Ability to operate a cash register, count money and make change.
  6. Ability to supervise and train team members.
  1. Ability to gather, analyze, record and express personnel productivity information on a verbal, written and automated basis. Basic computer skills necessary.
  2. Ability to read, write and speak English.
  3. Ability to realistically assess the values of merchandise.
  4. Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance and must be able to drive to other Goodwill locations.
  5. Must conduct themselves within the GIEP ethics policy.
  6. Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
  7. Must be able to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends).
  8. Must be willing to transfer to other stores as requested.
  9. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  10. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, customers, donors, and persons receiving services.
  11. Ability to maintain a positive, friendly attitude and a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
  12. Ability to provide support services by working with disabled/disadvantaged persons and assisting in the rehabilitation process of Goodwill Industries of El Paso, Inc.
