Infrastructure Server Engineer

Hybrid 3 day/week On-Site in Kansas City, MO. No travel outside of KC will be required.

  • Client is going away from VMWare. This individual will maintain the current environment while they migrate off VMware.

The main responsibility of the Infrastructure Server Engineer Contractor is to provide system administration for the Cisco UCS hardware and the VMware environments. Provide assistance as needed for support of the Windows server environment including maintaining currency, patch compliance, problem management and resolution, backup and DR using industry standard processes, procedures, and tools. You will participate in the development of short and long-term technical strategies, IT systems and architecture to meet business objectives. This position is expected to keep abreast of emerging technologies and resolve how those technologies can be used to meet needs and solve problems in our environment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Use knowledge of IT systems, infrastructure, and application areas to recommend and facilitate system improvements and/or re-engineering efforts in the virtualized Windows/Linux Server infrastructure.
  1. Communicate and maintain technical strategy planning and implementation progress in areas of expertise, for example: technology roadmaps, critical landmarks and gap analysis, cost/benefit analysis, etc.
  1. Maintain all aspects of the Cisco UCS infrastructure, including maintaining currency with regular drive and firmware updates and patches.
  1. Maintain all aspects of the VMware infrastructure, including maintaining currency.
  1. Participant as necessary in specific team projects
  1. Assist in other critical job functions as the need arises including but not limited to Business Continuity / Recovery, Availability, and Problem Management.
  1. Develop and ultimately possess expert knowledge of the technologies the team supports
  1. Provide technology, tools and architecture, for disaster recovery solutions for business-critical systems
  1. Participate in the On-Call rotation, providing primary problem support and resolution
  1. Participate in detailed tasks, projects, and priorities for the team
  1. Collaborate with business partners and other infrastructure teams providing consistent communication on infrastructure changes, upgrades, etc.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in enterprise Information Technology including an overall understanding of the entire compute, storage, and networking environment as well as standard methodologies regarding Information Management systems.
  1. Minimum of five (5) years demonstrable experience supporting VMware ESX, vSAN and vCenter and physical Cisco UCS hardware.
  1. Experience supporting the following Server Operating Systems: Windows Server 2019 and 2025
  1. Experience with Veeam Backup and Replication. PowerShell / Automation. Microsoft Power BI and Power Automate
  1. General understanding of Networking, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP functions
  1. Cloud / Cloud migration: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure

Additional Skills:

  • Proven ability to perform systems analysis and solutions design
  1. Capacity management using industry standard tools and processes
  1. Familiarity with monitoring and debugging tools and techniques
  1. Familiarity working with standard change control processes
  1. Demonstrate effective time and project management skills
  1. Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
