Our client is a respected leader in the design, construction, and repair of field-erected steel storage tanks serving industrial customers throughout the United States. We are seeking an experienced Storage Tank Construction Manager to oversee multiple API 650 storage tank construction and repair projects while supporting estimating, customer relationships, and field operations.

Position Summary
The Storage Tank Construction Manager will be responsible for directing multiple field construction crews performing the construction, modification, and repair of field-erected carbon and stainless steel storage tanks. The successful candidate will leverage their practical field experience to manage manpower, schedules, equipment utilization, estimating, customer relationships, and project execution while ensuring compliance with API, ASME, and OSHA standards.
This position combines office-based project management with regular travel to customer sites throughout the continental United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee multiple construction crews simultaneously, typically managing four or more active crews operating at various job sites.
- Supervise Foremen and field personnel performing construction and repair of API 650 storage tanks and API 653 repairs.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with customer specifications and applicable codes.
- Plan and coordinate manpower requirements, equipment needs, project schedules, and resource allocation.
- Assist with estimating activities by calculating labor requirements, manhours, material needs, and project scope for bids and proposals.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site evaluations, and customer planning sessions.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships that support repeat business and future project opportunities.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation.
- Monitor project performance, costs, productivity, and quality throughout project execution.
- Enforce all company safety policies and OSHA requirements across project sites.
- Prepare reports, project updates, estimates, and documentation utilizing Microsoft Office applications.
- Coordinate the use of cranes, welding equipment, erection tools, and other tank construction resources.
Required Qualifications
- 5-10+ years of hands-on experience in field-erected storage tank construction and/or repair.
- Strong working knowledge of API 650 tank construction practices.
- Experience with API 653 storage tank inspection, repair, alteration, and reconstruction requirements.
- Understanding of ASME and OSHA standards applicable to industrial construction projects.
- Ability to accurately estimate labor requirements, project durations, and equipment needs.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Familiarity with tank erection equipment, cranes, welding systems, and standard tank construction tools.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and project management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to project sites throughout the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Foreman, Superintendent, Crew Leader, or Construction Management experience.
- Experience managing multiple crews and concurrent projects.
- Background in industrial steel fabrication, welding, or heavy industrial construction.
- Proven track record of developing customer relationships and supporting business growth.
- Previous estimating or project management experience within the storage tank industry.
Travel Requirements
- Frequent travel to project sites across the continental United States.
- Approximately 90% of projects are located within a day's drive of Tyler, Texas.
- Occasional travel to more distant locations, including areas such as Houston, North Dakota, Florida, Arizona, and Alaska.
- While travel is an important component of the position, the role generally includes more office-based project management time than field travel, with some weeks or months requiring heavier site involvement.
