Job description

Closet & Custom Storage Designer

Location: Phoenix / Scottsdale / East Valley, Arizona

Company: ShelfGenie, in partnership with Tranquil Haus Living

Position: Commission-Based | Flexible Schedule | Paid Training | Company-Provided Leads | Incentive for Self-Generated Leads

Create Beautiful Spaces. Transform the way people experience their homes.

We are growing our custom closet and storage division and looking for a talented Closet & Custom Storage Designer who combines a strong eye for design with the ability to connect with people, understand their needs, and confidently guide them toward the right solution.

This is not simply a sales position—and it's not just about designing closets.

You'll work directly with homeowners to create thoughtful, personalized solutions for closets, pantries, laundry rooms, home offices, built-ins, and other custom storage spaces.

We're looking for someone who wants the freedom and earning potential of a performance-based role while being supported by an established business that provides qualified opportunities, training, professional tools, products, installation, and operational support.

Our Purpose

We believe a well-designed home can make life better.

Our purpose is to create thoughtful, functional spaces that reduce everyday friction, bring a sense of calm, and help people enjoy their homes through every season of life.

Our Values

Our values aren't simply words on a wall. They guide how we treat our clients, our teammates, and our work.

Integrity

We do what's right, keep our word, and take ownership of our actions.

Heart to Serve

We genuinely care about people and look for ways to make their lives better.

Service

We make every interaction easy, thoughtful, responsive, and worthy of our clients' trust.

Quality

We take pride in the details and hold ourselves to a high standard in our design, products, craftsmanship, and work.

What You'll Do

As a Closet & Custom Storage Designer, you'll guide homeowners from initial consultation through the design and sales process while helping ensure a great experience through project completion.

You'll:

  • Conduct engaging, professional in-home design consultations
  • Build trust and uncover what homeowners truly need from their spaces
  • Accurately measure and evaluate existing spaces
  • Create thoughtful custom designs using professional design software
  • Recommend finishes, features, accessories, and storage solutions
  • Present designs and pricing confidently
  • Help clients make decisions through consultative—not high-pressure—selling
  • Identify opportunities to improve other areas of the home when appropriate
  • Follow up consistently with prospective clients
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and CRM records
  • Communicate project details clearly to our operations and installation teams
  • Complete required project walkthrough and client closeout procedures
  • Continually develop your knowledge of cabinetry, storage design, materials, finishes, and space planning

Who We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you're someone who naturally puts people at ease and enjoys combining creativity with problem-solving.

You're likely:

  • Warm, personable, and confident
  • A strong listener who asks thoughtful questions
  • Visually oriented with an eye for design and proportion
  • Comfortable discussing budgets and asking for the business
  • Consultative rather than pushy
  • Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Highly accountable and dependable
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Organized with strong follow-through
  • Coachable and interested in continually improving
  • Comfortable learning technology and design software
  • Motivated by performance and the opportunity to control your earning potential

Experience

Experience in closet design, cabinetry, kitchen and bath design, interior design, space planning, remodeling, furniture/home furnishings, or in-home sales is valuable—but direct closet-industry experience is not required.

We believe character, communication skills, design aptitude, accountability, and client presence are just as important as industry experience.

If you're a natural relationship-builder with a good design eye and the ability to learn, we'd like to meet you.

Compensation & Earning Opportunity

Uncapped, performance-based commission of 7–10% of net sales, with higher commission opportunities based on sales performance, pricing discipline, and quality standards. Average projects range from $5,000 - $30,000. Additional compensation for sales resulting from self-generated leads up to 15% of net sales.

Paid initial training is provided.

Once established, strong performers have the opportunity to build a meaningful income through a combination of company-provided opportunities, repeat and referral business, and an expanding portfolio of custom storage solutions.

Commission is paid according to defined project milestones. Full details regarding commission rates, performance tiers, payment schedules, and eligibility are provided as part of the Designer Compensation Plan.

What We Provide

We want our designers focused on what they do best: building relationships, creating great designs, and helping clients make confident decisions.

We provide:

  • Qualified company-generated leads and appointments
  • Paid initial training
  • Comprehensive product and design training
  • Professional design software
  • Product samples and sales materials
  • Established product and supplier relationships
  • Professional installation team
  • Production and operational support
  • CRM and client management systems
  • Marketing support
  • Ongoing sales and design coaching
  • An expanding portfolio of closets, built-ins, pantry, laundry, office, kitchen storage, and whole-home solutions
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Uncapped earning potential
  • Opportunity to grow with an expanding local design and storage business

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't measured by sales alone.

Our strongest designers create profitable projects while delivering an exceptional client experience.

You'll be measured on a balanced set of standards including:

  • Sales performance
  • Close rate
  • Average project value
  • Pricing and margin discipline
  • Design accuracy
  • Follow-up and communication
  • Process compliance
  • Client satisfaction
  • Quality of project handoff
  • Low design-related rework
  • Reviews and referrals

We want you to sell—but how you sell and how you care for the client matter just as much.

Our Design Philosophy

We don't believe great design starts with a product.

It starts with listening.

We take time to understand how our clients live, what's frustrating them, what they want their homes to feel like, and what would make everyday life easier.

Then we design around those needs.

Our goal isn't simply to create more storage.

It's to create a space that works better for the person living in it.

Schedule & Service Area

This is a flexible, field-based position that involves traveling to clients' homes throughout the Phoenix / East Valley and surrounding service areas.

Design appointments are scheduled based on client availability, so some evening and occasional weekend availability may be required.

Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the service area are required.

Why Join Us?

We're building something bigger than a traditional closet company.

Through ShelfGenie and Tranquil Haus Living, we're helping homeowners think differently about their homes—combining thoughtful design, smart storage, functionality, and an elevated client experience.

This is an opportunity to join us at an exciting stage of growth and help shape a developing custom closet and whole-home storage business.

For the right person, this role offers an unusual combination of creativity, independence, flexibility, meaningful client relationships, and uncapped earning potential.

Most importantly, you'll get to see the tangible impact of your work when a client walks into their finished space and realizes how differently their home can work for them.
