Role Definition
The BESS Sales Engineer position is a Technical Sales Support team member responsible for supporting the BESS portions of the Caterpillar Energy Solutions. This role translates customer needs into winning solution strategies and connects technical capabilities to clear business value. The ideal candidate is a top-tier technical professional with strong commercial instincts, a proven ability to navigate complex sales, and demonstrated experience in BESS systems, power infrastructure, and/or data center electrical architecture.
What You Will Do
  • Support technical sales activities for the Power & Energy division, qualifying and advancing strategic opportunities with hyperscalers, colocation providers, developers, EPCs, utilities, and other key customers.
  • Partner with Sales, Product, Strategy, and Engineering teams to develop solution strategies, strengthen value propositions, and support complex commercial opportunities.
  • Assess customer business drivers, power requirements, technical constraints, and commercial priorities, incorporating BESS solutions into broader data center infrastructure strategies and providing feedback to Product Definition teams.
  • Develop technical solutions for Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and Data Center (DC) Block applications, create customer proposals, and support business development and solution sales efforts.

Degree Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Energy Systems, or a related technical field, along with experience in business development, strategic sales, technical sales, or related commercial roles within energy storage, power generation/distribution, data center infrastructure, or similar industries.

What Will Put You Ahead
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related technical field
  • Knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), grid services, and utility market dynamics, with an understanding of data center priorities such as speed to power, resiliency, and flexibility.
  • Understanding of data center electrical infrastructure, including MV/LV distribution, substations, backup power integration, protection systems, commissioning, and power delivery challenges.
  • Experience partnering with technical stakeholders and translating customer requirements into commercially viable solutions.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and effective in fast-paced, cross-functional environments

Summary Pay Range:
$97,530.00 - $146,290.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
