Job description

Job Summary

SOLV Energy is a leading provider of infrastructure services to the power industry, designing, building and maintaining utility scale solar, battery storage and high voltage substation projects nationwide. The Assistant Electrical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing BESS construction resulting in safe and successful project execution. This role is located full‑time on a jobsite in Clay, CA.

Position Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead and manage day‑to‑day field operations of energy storage projects.
  • Mentor junior level employees.
  • Assign tasks, delegate responsibilities, and provide guidance and training to develop team members skills and capabilities.
  • Hire and develop craft labor employees.
  • Develop and implement operations procedures and tools for continuous improvement and consistency between project teams.
  • Ensure implementation and consistent adherence to the Energy Storage Division’s Quality Control plan.
  • Conduct site visits to assess the progress of work and adherence to company policies and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of safety first, accountability and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Support in the creation of project schedules, labor/equipment plans, construction sequencing and execution planning on multiple projects within the region.
  • Review design documents for constructability and provide feedback.
  • Support the development of the Bill of Material – takeoffs.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, estimating and other internal departments as needed.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders including project owners, utilities, regulatory agencies, vendors and contractors.
  • Track operational status, performance metrics and project updates to senior management.
  • Enforce safety procedures and participate in the Safety Training Program, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to promote professional development and leadership growth.
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements
  • 3‑5 years of applicable work‑related experience in utility scale renewable construction and/or industrial/commercial electrical construction. Utility scale energy storage construction is preferred.
  • 1‑3 years of prior experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Demonstrated high level of capability to work within union labor agreements.
  • Experience in managing union labor and subcontractors.
  • State licensed electrician or journeyman preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in operations management, including budgeting, resource allocation and performance optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of testing and commissioning.
  • Proficient in standard PC applications.
  • Direct relevant industry experience.
  • NFPA 70e “Qualified Person” preferred, skilled with knowledge related to the construction and operation of the electrical equipment.
  • OSHA 30‑hour construction safety certification.
  • Ability to travel and work in varied environments as required by project needs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work, analyze, troubleshoot and prioritize problems independently.
  • Strong knowledge of dispatching methods, techniques, and practices.
  • Effective written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and coordinate.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Requires frequent stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking and lifting 50 or more lbs. Constant finger dexterity and ability to see details at close range and at a distance, hear, talk, and possess depth perception. Occasional climbing and carrying, proximity to moving mechanical parts, working in high exposed places. Occasional exposure to environmental conditions. 100% travel is required – this position is located on the assigned project location.
