Job summary: Possessing four SPD-Relevant Certifications (CRCST, CHL, CIS, CER) the Level Five SPD Manager is responsible for oversight and local operations management of the Sterile Processing Department areas supporting Surgical Services, various nursing units, and off-site clinics. Ensures coordinated and timely delivery of reprocessed items to clinical stakeholders within the health care organization. Ensures local facility sterilization and HLD functions comply with all regulatory requirements. Manages SPD personnel and serves as liaison between SPD and other departments. Maintains effective interdepartmental relationships, coordinates and resolves problems, and ensures cooperation with other programs and services. In conjunction with Surgical Services Director, manages the overall SPD budget including determining resource needs, allocation resources and ensuring proper utilization in productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness of SPD operations. Develops and maintains a system of internal reviews that ensure service programs operation in compliance with regulatory and accrediting organizations.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
    • Collaborates with Infection Prevention staff, as well as hospital and clinic leadership to monitor, develop and implement quality assurance and performance improvement activities (audits) related to continuous readiness, quality, service and workflow.
    • Maintains staff scheduling (timekeeping) to ensure operational support requirements are met for the OR and supported clinical areas
    • Conducts performance appraisals with staff, providing professional improvement plans as deemed necessary
    • Participates in the budgeting process as subject matter expert to support acquisition of capital equipment and operating expenses. Maintains operating expenses in line with budgeting guidelines and takes corrective action when necessary

Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Healthcare obtained within two years of employment. Bachelor's degree in science or healthcare preferred.

  • License/Certification: Maintains currency with four SPD certifications (CRCST, CHL, CIS, CER through IAHCSMM) or (CSPDT, CSPM, CSIS, CFER through CBSPD) within three years of employment.
