Day Shift (United States of America)

This role operates under the guidance of medical and nursing professionals to ensure the safe and effective execution of invasive surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sterile and aseptic techniques, along with knowledge of human anatomy and surgical practices. Responsibilities include managing sterile processing, overseeing supplies and equipment, maintaining preference cards, and ensuring environmental controls are upheld. The position also involves participation in advanced surgical procedures, training for specific shifts or techniques, and the upkeep of specialized equipment. Additionally, this role will mentor surgical technologists and students within the perioperative setting.

• Act as a role model for staff and students, serving as a mentor for new hires and trainees.
• Provide resources and support for the surgical team and new employees.
• Maintain expertise in advanced surgical procedures and demonstrate knowledge of instrument sets, equipment, and supplies.
• Establish and uphold a sterile field, performing counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments in accordance with policy.
• Assist in administering prescribed medications, ensuring proper labeling and communication within the sterile field.
• Prepare the clinical area physically, including cleaning and arranging furniture for initial cases.
• Manage inventory, including stocking and reordering supplies, and assist in updating preference cards and count sheets.
• React promptly and appropriately in emergency situations.
• Verify sterilization processes and the integrity of sterile packaging, ensuring aseptic handling of supplies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of sterilizers, indicators, and the reprocessing of instruments, including disinfection and sterilization levels.
• Provide educational opportunities for OR staff, including in-service training on specialty equipment and instruments.
• Engage in the Perioperative Services quality and safety clinical practice program, actively working towards departmental metrics.
• Communicate effectively with personnel at all levels, ensuring timely responses and maintaining visibility in the area.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Adhere to all organizational policies, work standards, and codes of conduct.

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED; completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
• Licenses and Certifications: All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless specified otherwise:
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist or CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant or CSFA - Certified Surgical First Assistant
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support Instructor
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in Surgical Technology is required.
