Montgomery County Community College is searching for a part-time Sterile Processing Technician instructor to teach our Sterile Processing Technician program at our Pottstown and/or Blue Bell campuses
Part Time Casual Employees are hired on a seasonal basis during peak periods, may serve a maximum of four consecutive months (i.e. summer/fall enrollment peak) and are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization processing technique sand provide didactic and clinical instruction in sterile processing technology.
- Teach best practices for decontamination procedures, processing of reusable instrumentation and patient care equipment, and aseptic technique.
- Demonstrate, conduct, and supervise practical labs and training for students using relevant equipment.
- Educate students about hospital policies for surgical processing technicians and ensure sanitation, safety, and housekeeping infection control.
- Instruct students on responsible monitoring and record keeping for sterile processing.
- Evaluate student performance in the class.
- Partner with industry advisory group to continue to improve and align instruction to industry needs.
- Serve as a reference for students seeking employment with regional employers.
- Help maintain labs as safe and organized work areas.
- Provide current information on core topics within the field, such as medical terminology, anatomy, and microbiology for Sterile Processing Technicians, infection prevention, surgical instrumentation, point-of-use disinfection and sterilization, high- and low-temperature sterilization, sterile storage and transport, and the role of sterile processing in ancillary department support.
- Confer with Surgical Technology Program coordinator and/or faculty to ensure Sterilization Processing curriculum aligns with Surgical technology curriculum.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience training in all facets of sterile processing.
- Associate's Degree Required.
- Prior instructional experience is desirable but can be waived for experienced professionals.
- Licensures & Certifications: CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) is required through IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management). Provisional CRCST certification will be accepted for up to six months from hire date, and then full certification is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in instrument processing.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
