Below, you'll find other important information about this position.Provides the facility with services in the areas of supply processing and distribution. Sterile processing has five major areas: Decontamination, processing (inspection, assembly and packaging), Sterilizing, Sterile Storage, and distribution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Certified Registered Central Service Technician through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or due within 18 months of hire.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Provide exceptional patient care by providing prompt, accurate service
2. Provide supplies of sterile linen packs, basins, instrument trays, and other sterile items
3. Maintain accurate records of cleaning, disinfection, and the sterilization processes
4. Strive for consistency in the trays that the department provides
5. Monitor and enforce controls necessary to prevent cross-contamination according to infection control policies
6. Establish and maintain sterile processing standards
7. Implement changes as needed to stay current with new regulations and recommended practices
8. Review current practices for possible improvements in quality of services provided
9. Provide services to other departments in all areas of sterile processing

For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:

1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Must meet Department of Labor's MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).
2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
3. Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighting in excess of 200 pounds.
