Job Description: Sterile Processing Educator/Auditor – 13-Week Contract

Sterile Processing University is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Certified Sterile Processing Educator/Auditor for a 13-week contract assignment. This position combines staff education, departmental auditing, process improvement, and hands-on sterile processing technician responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Sterile Processing professional who can evaluate current practices, identify opportunities for improvement, educate and mentor staff, and work alongside the team when needed.

Position Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive audits of Sterile Processing practices, workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate departmental compliance with current AAMI standards, manufacturer IFUs, and applicable regulatory/accreditation requirements.
  • Provide hands-on education, coaching, and competency-based training to Sterile Processing staff.
  • Identify gaps in practice and develop practical recommendations and corrective action plans.
  • Assist leadership with improving workflow, quality, productivity, documentation, and standardization.
  • Observe and evaluate practices in decontamination, inspection, assembly and packaging, sterilization, high-level disinfection, sterile storage, and distribution.
  • Review staff competencies and assist with developing or strengthening education and competency programs.
  • Provide immediate coaching when unsafe or noncompliant practices are identified.
  • Work collaboratively with SPD leadership, technicians, the OR, Infection Prevention, and other departments.
  • Prepare written audit findings, progress reports, and recommendations for departmental leadership.
  • Track improvements throughout the 13-week assignment and provide a final assessment of progress and remaining opportunities.
  • Perform hands-on Sterile Processing Technician duties as needed, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and other department responsibilities.
  • Serve as a professional resource and mentor while maintaining a supportive, team-oriented approach.
Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of five years of Sterile Processing experience, with strong hands-on technical knowledge. Current CRCST and/or CSPDT certification is required. Previous experience in education, auditing, leadership, quality improvement, or departmental assessments is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication and teaching skills, a strong understanding of current industry standards and IFUs, and the ability to identify deficiencies while helping staff understand the “why” behind proper Sterile Processing practices.
