Stephens County Hospital is a 96-bed acute care hospital located in Toccoa, Georgia. We are nestled in the beautiful foothills of Northeast Georgia where our family-oriented community offers many cultural and civic opportunities as well as numerous outdoor activities.
Stephens County Hospital is a member of the Georgia Hospital Association, American Hospital Association and Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals. Stephens County Hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the nation's premier healthcare monitoring agency.
Paramedic/Advanced EMT - PRN 24 Hour various shifts and days
The Paramedic/Advanced EMT responds to all ambulance calls providing medical evaluation and treatment to patients:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of accredited Paramedic Program/ accredited EMT Program.
Licensed as an Parmedic through the Georgia Division of Public Health/Georgia EMT.
Valid Georgia driver's license meeting insurability requirements.
Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Pedicatric Advanced Life Support Certified or obtained within 6 months of employment
Obtain Post Licensure in Advanced Transport Ventilators & Administration of Blood Products
Professional Requirements
  • Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Complete annual education requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Wear identification while on duty.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
  • Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-services as needed.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
  • May need to sit or stand for hours at a time
  • Physically demanding, high-stress environment
  • Lifts stretcher to carry patient in and out of building, residence, structure
  • and the ambulance.
  • Frequently lifts up to 100 lbs.(patients and equipment).
  • Frequently assists in lifting over 100 lbs.(patients and equipment).
  • Climbing and balancing required to get in and out of ambulance.
  • Reaching and handling to administer first aid.
  • Reaching, handling, stooping or kneeling to perform patient care. (IE: Perform CPR)
  • Ability to maintain balance on any unleveled surface.
  • Lifts stair chair to carry patient in and out of a structure.
  • Depth perception needed for driving.
  • Talking and hearing should be sufficient enough to communicate with staff and patients

Non-Essential Functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Answers phones - 886-5058, 886-9494, 282-4299 and 886-9495.
  • Obtains vital information on emergency calls - to include name, address/location, call back number and nature of illness and/or accident.
  • Establishes which EMS station should respond according to boundary lines set forth by EMS Manager.
  • Administers appropriate treatment to patients at the scene and enroute to destination:
    • Patients with medical illnesses and/or injuries, Trauma Patients, Cardiac Patients, Burn Patients, OB/GYN Patients
  • Triages patients according to medical condition.
  • Transports patients per EMS Policy 027.
  • Provides necessary radio communication concerning patient's condition while enroute to receiving facility:
    • Identifies unit number, patient's age and sex, chief complaint, level of consciousness, vital signs, pupils, lung sounds, skin color and temperature, pertinent past medical history, pertinent medications, pertinent allergies, patient's physician, care and treatment rendered, request of any physician orders, and estimated time of arrival.
  • Maintains required log of ambulance calls and necessary reports and related forms.
  • Documents the following:
    • Times of the call, time of the actual call when it was receive, time of arrival on the scene, time of when ambulance is enroute to receiving facility, time of arrival at Emergency Department, Nursing Home, Clinic or residence of patient, mileage - beginning, on scene and ending
  • Completes GEMSIS Digital Patient Care Report for each call.
  • Checks equipment and supply check at the beginning of each shift and completes check-off list.
  • Reports any malfunction to the shift supervisor or EMS Manager.
  • Retrieves used equipment and restocks all supplies.
  • Performs any necessary service to place the unit back into operation for the next call.
  • Selects appropriate site and equipment needed.
  • Performs procedure and monitors patient for redevelopment of emergency.
  • Performs Skills in accordance with Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma Scope of Practice SOP-2021
  • Other practices as required of the role of a Paramedic/Advanced EMT.
