What is a Stealth Mode Startup job?

A Stealth Mode Startup job refers to a position at a company that is operating in secrecy to protect its product, strategy, or competitive advantage. Employees may work under non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and have limited public-facing information about the company. These roles often involve dynamic, fast-paced environments where workers contribute to early-stage development, innovation, and market research. Since details are confidential, transparency may be limited until the company officially launches or announces its product.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Stealth Mode Startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Stealth Mode Startup, individuals need a strong entrepreneurial mindset, adaptability, and a solid foundation in their specific field (such as software engineering, business development, or product management). Familiarity with modern collaboration tools, version control systems, rapid prototyping platforms, and experience in lean methodologies are commonly required. Outstanding soft skills include discretion, resilience, effective communication, and the ability to work independently in high-uncertainty environments. These competencies are critical as they enable you to navigate ambiguity, protect sensitive information, and contribute meaningfully during the startup’s formative and confidential early stages.

What are the typical work environment and team dynamics like at a Stealth Mode Startup?

At a Stealth Mode Startup, you can expect a fast-paced, highly collaborative, and often remote or hybrid work environment where confidentiality is paramount. Teams are typically small and cross-functional, requiring close cooperation between engineers, designers, and business professionals to rapidly iterate on ideas while maintaining secrecy about the product or service. Communication is streamlined and direct, with frequent check-ins and agile workflows to adapt to evolving priorities. You may find that roles are fluid, offering opportunities to contribute in multiple areas and rapidly grow your skill set. This dynamic environment is well suited for professionals who are comfortable with ambiguity, proactive problem-solving, and working toward ambitious, shared goals.

Executive Assistant to the Office of CEO
You are incredibly sharp, driven, and a constant learner. You believe that being an EA is a powerful career path, not a stepping-stone. You are deeply service-oriented and understand the value in building relationships with not only the CEO, but the C-Level suite, Board of Directors, Investors, and key customers, that will allow you to anticipate needs, intuit the dynamics of the team, and seamlessly step into and out of workflows in and outside the company.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional administrative support to the CEO.
  • With eloquence and poise, act as an ambassador for the executives you support both company-wide and to external contacts.
  • Manage and maintain his busy calendar and respond to copious meeting requests that require frequent re-prioritization.
  • Coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements; create detailed itineraries.
  • Arrange internal and external meetings, including lodging and meeting accommodations, for groups large and small.
  • Handle sensitive business and confidential information with discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Embrace unexpected duties or projects.
  • Perform general administrative functions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience as an administrative or executive assistant, culminating in at least one position supporting a C-level executive, preferably the CEO.
  • High “clock speed”—intelligent and fast on addressing a large volume of daily tasks. Able to adjust real-time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to prioritize, plan, and perform multiple urgent tasks seamlessly.
  • Self-directed: able to determine priorities, make decisions, and manage time well. Not afraid to ask questions and for help when needed.
  • Enthusiasm for challenges, comfortable with change, ready to learn.
  • An eye for efficiency: constantly engaged in improving results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes and then implementing those changes.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure, meets deadlines, sees projects through. Maintains a professional demeanor in chaotic and ambiguous situations.
  • Punctual, courteous, professional, and reliable; possesses good judgment.
  • Strong technical competency, specifically with Mac OS and Windows, Microsoft Office Suite and Google apps. Actively investigates relevant technology and builds the skills to use it.
  • A technical background or ability to assimilate technical material quickly is a plus. An interest in the tech industry and the business community is helpful.
