Director of Treasury | Rapid Growth AI Start-Up ($1B+ Series A) | Bay Area

The Client

Harmonic are proud to have been retained by a rapidly growing VC Backed AI start-up revolutionizing mankind’s understanding of the physical sciences. They are preparing to manufacture multiple complex HardTech products utilizing AI with the ability to take massive leaps forward in our interpretation of the laws which underpin physics. The business has applications impacting space exploration, climate and green energy, advanced computing, robotics, defense and global food supply chain.

They are currently in stealth mode and incubated by a major VC player with a track record in the last 3 years of launching some of the fastest growing and transformative AI businesses in their respective fields. They are going to announce one of the largest Series A fundraises in start-up history (well in excess of $1 billion) with multiple top tier VC backers that are working together on similar ventures.

The Role:

The client is scaling its Accounting, Treasury, & Tax function to support rapid company growth. We are looking for a Director of Treasury to finalize implementation of the company's Treasury and Investment Policy and own it going forward, while managing day-to-day cash management, banking relationships, and liquidity planning.

Responsibilities:

• Finalize implementation of the company's Treasury and Investment Policy
• Own the Treasury and Investment Policy going forward, maintain, update, and ensure ongoing compliance as the company and markets evolve
• Manage the investment portfolio in accordance with the policy, including allocation decisions, counterparty and instrument selection, and performance reporting
• Manage daily cash positioning, bank transfers, and wire approvals across all company accounts
• Own bank account administration, signer management, and banking relationships
• Monitor compliance with debt covenants, credit facility terms, and lender reporting requirements
• Develop treasury policies, controls, and approval workflows to support company growth
• Partner with Accounting and FP&A on cash and investment reporting, board materials, and investor requests
• Evaluate and help implement treasury management systems and tools as needs scale
• Support financing activities, including debt raises and banking RFPs, as needed
• Manage foreign currency exposure and international banking needs, if applicable

Requirements:

• 5+ years of treasury or corporate finance experience; prior in-house treasury experience preferred
• Experience implementing or administering a corporate treasury and investment policy
• Hands-on experience with cash management platforms and banking portals
• Strong Excel and financial modeling skills
• Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems a plus
• High attention to detail, strong controls mindset, and comfort operating in a fast-growing environment

Nice to Have:

• CPA
• Big 4 accounting experience.
• Ability to connect with strategic finance team
• Experience in a manufacturing or CAPEX-intensive business.
• Background in Deep Tech sectors such as Green Energy, Space Tech, Defense Tech, or Biotech.
• CTP certification a plus

Location: San Francisco, CA

Compensation: $200-$250k + Bonus + Equity
