Job description

A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be considered for a highly qualified candidate.
The incumbent serves as a biostatistician and provides complete management of assigned cooperative (multicenter) clinical trials and epidemiologic studies at Perry Point. The primary responsibilities involve managing and coordinating clinical trial activities, protocol writing and submission, data processing, statistical analysis, and report writing.Qualifications:Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
In order to meet the basic requirement of the Statistician, 1530 series, you must possess one of the following:

  1. A degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. (TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED)

  2. A combination of education and experience as follows: courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. (TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED)

GS-13 Specialized Experience:
In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 grade level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. In order to meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet 4/6 of the following examples of specialized experience:
  • Providing Biostatistical support during all phases of multi-center clinical trials.
  • Providing statistical input and advice to clinical teams.
  • Providing clear and regular technical and administrative input to professional, technical, and administrative personnel assigned to a clinical trial.
  • Ensuring the assigned studies are conducted according to rules, regulations and ethics requirements.
  • Reviewing the statistical programs, written by the assigned statistical programmer.
  • Monitoring performance using an established risk-based monitoring approach.
The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.
Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary; however, some walking between offices located on three different floors in the same building and in two satellite locations is required.Education:Transcripts must be provided with your application.
