Job Description
Performs investigative research in the field of neuro-modulation and device development. Tests and evaluates implantable devices developed for neuro-stimulation and recording. Performs benchtop and in vitro/in vivo experimental studies. Publishes and presents data. Collaborates with Investigators and Scientists in facilitating scientific research.
Job Responsibility
  • Provides research and technical expertise in the design, selection of material/components, development, testing, and evaluation of novel implantable neuromodulation devices.
  • Analyzes electrophysiological and electrochemical responses to neuromodulation.
  • Performs experiments, collects data, analyzes results, drafts engineering reports, and presents to leadership for review.
  • Directs and performs engineering, computer science and statistical studies for select research projects.
  • Maintains equipment and infrastructure in the bioelectronics laboratory.
  • Attends scientific and technical meetings, builds and maintains databases, works with computer software, and integrates systems, as needed.
  • Participates-in writing of abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.

Job Qualification
  • Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
  • PhD (or equivalent combination of education and related experience) in a relevant field (including neural engineering, machine learning, reinforcement learning, bioengineering, neuroscience, data science)
  • Deep understanding of machine learning principles, reinforcement learning, statistics, and experimental design
  • Extensive experience with data analysis, signal processing, artifact rejection, Fourier/wavelet transformation, figure generation, and programming in Python and MATLAB
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Git and collaborative coding practices
  • Experience analyzing electrophysiology and neural data
  • Experience with neurostimulation including brain/intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) and/or spinal cord stimulation
  • Experience with Simulink and real-time systems
  • Experience working with human participants in a research environment
  • Experience with real-time vision processing and body/hand tracking
