Position Announcement
Assist in research activities related to the UDOT-funded project "Improving Roadside Vegetation Establishment in Utah." The position supports laboratory testing, greenhouse studies, and field data collection to evaluate soil amendments, vegetation performance, and environmental conditions along Utah highways.
Summary of Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory and greenhouse experiments, monitoring, watering, and data collection (e.g., plant growth, soil moisture, pH, EC)
  • Support field work including vegetation establishment monitoring, data collection, and photographic documentation.
  • Perform data entry, statistical analysis, and help generate tables, figures, and summaries for reports.
  • Assist in project management, report preparation, presentations, and coordination with UDOT project partners.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Current UVU student majoring in Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Earth Science, Biology, or related field.
  • Valid driver's license for travel to field sites.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Basic principles of geotechnical engineering, vegetation growth, and environmental monitoring.
  • Laboratory and field safety procedures.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel, Word, and data organization.
  • Ability to perform careful measurements, data logging, and basic statistical analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Work independently and collaboratively.
  • Follow standard operating procedures with attention to detail.
  • Lift and move light equipment and soil samples (=10 lbs).
  • Willingness to work outdoors under variable conditions.
