Job description

First review of applicants: Wednesday, September 2. Interviews to take place on Thursday, September 3.
This part-time internship program is scheduled for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 period. Schedule will be flexible but require 10-15 hours per week on site during regular business hours.
Wage: $18.00 / hr.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general direction, performs a variety of professional, analytical, and clerical duties in supporting the planning, organizing, and creation of a variety of documents and projects. Exercises no supervision.
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
  • Assists in collecting and preparing data and research.
  • Analyzes, researches, and prepares various financial and management reports.
  • Assesses programs for best practices and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Provides support to the Administration department, additional City departments, and elected officials.
  • Analyzes trends in employee compensation and benefits; assists with updates to the City's compensation program.
  • Conducts basic functions as needed such as data entry, file management, and customer service.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, human resources, business management, public management or closely related field. Preference given to candidates interested in or currently enrolled in a Master of Public Administration program and interested in a local government career.

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of public administration; governmental finance, budgeting and accounting; research techniques, methods and procedures; and office management principles, practices, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer software and hardware applications.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform complex skills, including statistics, research data analysis, finance, and interpret charts and graphs.
  • Ability to analyze and recommend solutions to management and organizational problems.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, elected officials, agents or other governmental entities and the general public.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of budgets and accounting systems.
  • This position may require use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid Utah driver's license, and have a good driving record.
