Job description

Description
The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position of business analytics with a focus on applied artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML). Faculty members are expected to publish in top academic journals, to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the intellectual life of the university. Effective date of employment will be August 1, 2027, or when filled. Compensation will be competitive.
Qualifications
Successful candidates for this position will have:
  • A Ph.D. degree in Information Systems, Operations Research, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related fields, with a business background or a focus on business applications, in hand (including August 2027 graduation) as of the starting date of employment.
  • A commitment to a scholarly research record as evidenced by publications (or work toward publications) in top-tier academic journals.
  • The ability to communicate effectively to audiences including faculty, undergraduate students, and graduate students.

Department of Business Analytics and Statistics
The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics is one of seven departments within the Haslam College of Business. The department currently offers bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. degrees in Business Analytics and leads UTK's Intercollegiate Graduate Statistics and Data Science Program. The department's MSBA program received the 2018 INFORMS Smith Prize. The Business Analytics faculty emphasizes working with businesses to apply analytics to real world challenges. The department includes 18 tenured or tenure-track faculty, many of whom serve in editorial positions at leading journals and have been recognized with international awards including the Edelman Award and the Wagner Prize.
