Under the guidance of a faculty Biostatistician/Data Scientist, the Statistician I will carry out data preparation responsibilities related to basic, clinical and/or population health research; perform introductory to intermediate-level statistical analysis and programming associated with research projects; and assist with the preparation of written reports, manuscripts, and grant applications with investigators.Job Description:
Job Duties
  • Compiles, analyzes, and reports statistical data for various projects including, but not limited to, manual and computer-aided data abstraction and evaluation, clinical trial design, computerized imaging, bioinformatics, and computational genomics.
  • Assists with database preparation and various statistical aspects of investigator-initiated trials, research projects, and grants.
  • Performs basic statistical analysis using appropriate methods, and carries out advanced statistical analyses under the supervision and guidance of Biostatistics faculty member. Assists with the creation, verification, testing, modifying, and certification of the eCRF creation process related to clinical research to ensure quality data collection.
  • Applies basic statistical methods, simulation models, and skilled statistical programming, as needed.
  • Assesses relevant literature as well as existing data, evaluates the quality of data used in reports, and assists with preparation and distribution of data for committee and scientific meetings.
  • Attends project meetings with collaborators and Biostatistics & Data Science faculty members and makes presentations as needed.
  • Prepares written reports, manuscripts, and grant applications for investigators under the supervision of Biostatistics & Data Science faculty.
  • Provide Core Support (ex. Hematological Malignancies and Cellular Therapeutics (HMCT) Core) by assisting investigators with data management, data harmonization, cohort development, statistical programming, and generation of analytic datasets for clinical, translational, and population health research projects.
  • Participates in Heartland Data Coordinating and Operations Center (DCOC) data operations, including data cleaning, quality control (QC), data validation, discrepancy resolution, and preparation of study datasets to ensure data integrity, completeness, and compliance with study protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), data quality metrics, automated QC reports, and monitoring dashboards to support multi-site research studies and centralized data coordinating activities.
  • Collaborates with investigators, data managers, and research staff to identify and resolve data issues, perform routine data audits, and maintain documentation of data management and quality assurance activities.
  • Supports extraction, transformation, integration, and harmonization of data from electronic health records, clinical trial systems, registries, and other research data sources for research and reporting purposes.
  • Contributes to the validation and testing of research databases, electronic case report forms (eCRFs), and data collection workflows to ensure high-quality and reliable data capture across studies.

Required Qualifications
Work Experience:
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience. Relevant education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year of experience with mainframe and/or PC databases, document processing, and statistical software such as SAS, R, Stata, or SPSS.

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or related field, or undergraduate degree in similar field of study with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Work Experience:
  • Three (3) years of experience with mainframe and/or PC databases, document processing, and statistical software.
  • Two (2) years of experience in statistical consulting, data analysis and design related to basic, clinical and/or population health.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
