Overview

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) provides information to support university decision‑making through analytic activities, data‑gathering tasks, and research projects. OIR serves as a clearinghouse for statistical information about the University. This position is an expert individual contributor, conducting institutional research that requires the management of nuanced data, creation of supporting data systems, and marshaling of expertise from related offices. The Senior Statistician will determine relevant data, arrange for collection, conduct analysis using appropriate statistical techniques, and prepare and present reports.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced expertise in statistical methods and research design relevant to higher education, including causal inference and multivariate analysis.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages for statistical analysis and data preparation (e.g., R or Python; SAS, Stata, MATLAB).
  • Proven ability to create large, complex data sets from disparate sources while managing data quality for analysis and data management.
  • Demonstrated skill in producing visualizations using coded processes (e.g., Tidyverse, Quarto, Shiny).
  • Commitment to pairing effective data communication with rigorous research design and analysis.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree or higher in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field such as data science, social sciences, econometrics, public health, and computational sciences.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Conduct institutional research; analyze internal and peer data to support university policies.
  • Manage creation of high‑value data products from complex, sensitive data sources.
  • Access multiple university data sources: extract, merge, and/or collect relevant data.
  • Transform institutional/transactional data for analysis and reporting, ensuring high data integrity.
  • Act as expert resource to colleagues within and outside OIR to enhance quality of data and analysis.
  • Prepare materials and communicate information clearly to internal and external audiences.
  • Generate summary analysis at the university level.
  • Prepare data for submission to external data exchanges (e.g., IPEDS, AAUDE).
  • Apply advanced statistical knowledge to support management and analysis of data.
  • Provide analytic support to faculty, administrative committees, and university leadership.
  • Prepare reports and presentations using both text and graphics.
  • Develop protocols for survey‑based data collection and design data‑gathering instruments.
  • Stay abreast of relevant higher‑education issues, new tools or techniques to improve data collection, storage, or reporting.
  • Convene analysts and other data colleagues in a community of practice to enhance data use and analytical skills across university units.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in a related discipline and six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
