What is the Opportunity?

The Group Risk Management (GRM) - Market and Counterparty Credit Risk (MCCR) Policy team partners with key stakeholders and senior management to establish and oversee market, counterparty credit and liquidity risk policies that guide RBC's operations and decision-making.

GRM-MCCR Policy team is seeking an intern to join our team to push the boundaries of AI applications with policy development and management through cutting-edge AI/ML prototyping, traditional machine learning, and deep analytical exploration.

You're a technically versatile professional who thrives at the intersection of business workflows, experimentation, and production. You're equally comfortable prototyping with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Model Context Protocol (MCP) as you are building or conducting deep-dive exploratory analyses. You can translate ambiguous business challenges into concrete technical solutions and communicate insights effectively through storytelling to stakeholders.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate with team members to understand business problems, translate them into analytical approaches, and communicate findings.
  • Prototype and experiment with emerging AI technologies including LLMs, generative AI, and MCP integrations to solve policy development and management challenges.
  • Conduct deep-dive exploratory analyses to uncover hidden patterns and insights to generate actionable insights.
  • Facilitate the automation of business workflows and processes.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Hands-on experience LLMs, prompt engineering, and generative AI applications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate business questions into analytical approaches
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-directed learner with curiosity about emerging AI/ML technologies

Nice-to-have:

  • Background in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Physics, Finance, Risk Management, or related quantitative field.
  • Experience with coding and data analysis using Generative AI.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, ML, and automation.
  • Understanding of API integration and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and modern data stacks.

Please note:This posting is for a 4-months Winter 2027 Student placement with a start date of January 2027, and end date of April 2027. In order to be eligible for this 4-months Student position, you must either:

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of April 2027 ; or
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in April 2027), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
