Job description

Overview

The Security Guard is responsible for providing professional security and protective services to ensure the safety and security of participants, staff, visitors, and property. This position is expected to perform all duties in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, Employee Handbook, facility safety policies and procedures, and the requirements of the New York State Security Guard Act.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Report to work on time and be prepared to begin each shift promptly.
  • Assist with program operations as directed by Program Leadership.
  • Provide instructors with program materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor program areas and maintain accurate daily attendance records.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff members, regardless of position.
  • Help supervise participants while enforcing safety rules and emergency procedures

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a team member dedicated to the protection of people, property, and program operations.
  • Help maintain a safe and secure work environment.
  • Maintain a current, valid New York State Security Guard License/Certification throughout employment and complete all required renewal and annual training requirements to remain in good standing.
  • Comply with the New York State Security Guard Act of 1992.
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, security post orders, and supervisory instructions.
  • Adhere to the established chain of command.
  • Complete logs, incident reports, and all required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with the organization's dress code.
  • Be available to work assigned schedules, including emergency coverage and additional hours when needed.
  • Attend all required training sessions.
  • Obtain and maintain Fire Guard Certification and become proficient in all emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Protect the confidentiality of participants, clients, agency information, and all work-related information obtained during daily operations.
  • Notify supervisors promptly of any lateness or absence.
  • Demonstrate reliability, including availability for on-call assignments when required.
  • Organize workload effectively and prioritize assignments.
  • Perform assigned duties independently with minimal supervision.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with participants, families, visitors, consultants, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a supportive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Present a professional image when interacting with the public.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality, caring services.
  • Treat all participants with dignity, respect, and consideration.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must possess a current, valid New York State Security Guard License/Certification at the time of hire.
  • Responsible, respectful, and a positive role model.
  • Able to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patient and capable of assisting program participants ages 5-12.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
