Job Description The Laboratory Manager's primary responsibility is to ensure technical compliance with unit, departmental, and division policies for the scientists, examiners, and technicians working within the Latent Prints Unit. This position also serves as the liaison between the technical leader and the Laboratory Director. Responsibilities include case management for the Latent Prints Unit, overseeing discipline-specific training until competency is achieved, and serving as acting Laboratory Director when needed.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies.

The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service. Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in forensic science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related pure or applied science. Experience Two years of experience equivalent to a Forensic Scientist 12 or a State Police Specialist (Sergeant) or State Police Sergeant 12 in the State Police Forensic Science Division.

Alternate Education and Experience State Police Laboratory Manager 14 For the Latent Prints and Questioned Documents specialty areas, possession of a bachelor's degree in natural science, criminal justice, forensic science, or a related pure or applied science with 8 semester hours in chemistry and two years of experience as a State Police Specialist (Sergeant) or State Police Sergeant 12 in the State Police Forensic Science Division may be substituted for the education and experience requirement.
