Job description

POSITION TITLE: Front Office Assistant

STATUS: Temporary

COMPENSATION: $15.00 hourly

LOCATION: Doswell, Virginia State Fair of Virginia

REPORTS TO: Event Logistics Assistant

THE ROLE: This role supports guests and the administrative staff with critical information and the enhancement of the guest experience. It involves greeting and assisting guests, answering phone calls, and performing various administrative tasks.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Greet and assist guests in a professional and friendly manner
  • Answer and direct phone calls to the appropriate individual
  • Perform various administrative tasks such as filing, data entry and photocopying
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing mail and packages
  • Assist with Lost and Found items and people
  • Maintain a clean and organized front office area
  • Assist with credentials, parking, etc. preparation and distribution
  • Monitor, issue, and receive handheld communication devices

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • At times, the position can involve tasks that require travel on the facility grounds such as delivering credentials, packages and or supporting event setup needs.
  • Provide general support to other departments as needed

POSITION: Entry Level

The position will include some, but not necessarily all the above primary and additional duties. Responsibilities will be determined based upon candidates skill set and aptitude.

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Customer service or administrative experience

MINIMUM SKILL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients and vendors.
  • Punctuality
  • Ability to work multiple days in a row
  • Applicant must be available September 25 October 4, 2026

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office environment
  • Occasional outdoor environment
  • Target hiring dates: August 3, 2026, August 10, 2026, August 17, 2026
  • Schedule will be various shifts Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am 5pm prior to the State Fair
  • Schedule will include day, evening, and weekend shifts during the State Fair, September 25 October 4, 2026
  • Position will end on or around October 7, 2026 but will not exceed October 9, 2026.
