Job description

Location: Fully Remote, USA. Must live and work within the USA.
Job Overview:
The State Relations Manager will be the primary liaison for, and ensure productive organizational relationships with, the key state Department of Education stakeholders/policy actors with direct authority and/or indirect influence over education policy, functions/programs, and resource allocations.
This role will be responsible for designing and executing strategic plans to raise Cambium Learning Group's visibility in target states. Anticipating and identifying educational challenges and opportunities are critical. We are looking for someone with a positive, can-do attitude, strong motivation, and a creative mindset who can provide practical approaches to support a rapidly changing organization.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Cambium business units, Sales and internal divisions to develop strategic plans and State Solutions approach;
  • Leverage existing networks and/or cultivate relationships with key state Department of Education officials to secure meetings and presentations;
  • Support and act as the primary conduit between Sales and state Departments of Education;
  • Play an integral role in conference strategy;
  • Consult with state education leaders on a wide range of education initiatives, priorities, and issues affecting students, educators, and schools;
  • Assist in the successful pursuit of state-level contracts;
  • Work with Sales to identify state Department of Education policies that negatively impact sales and develop and execute a strategy to improve them;
  • Share best practices on education policy;
  • Represent Cambium Learning at conference and partner events;
  • Assist in the development of messaging and positioning;
  • Support government relations activities by working with state Department of Education officials on policy implementations.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Advanced Degree in Education or Policy preferred
  • Knowledge and expertise in education policy and state government operations
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in a senior leadership role with a state Department of Education, highly preferred
  • Experience leading or managing initiatives connected to state policy, funding, and guidance preferred
  • Established networks with state Department of Education decision-makers preferred
  • Experience and proven ability to work and thrive in a cross-functional role, with success in aligning goals and objectives, and balancing competing interests and priorities
  • Proven track record of interpreting relevant insights from various resources to spot trends
  • Strong organization, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence and ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment
  • Good customer focus, attitude, verbal and written communication skills
