Major Responsibilities

  • Administers approved IV solutions and medications under the direction of Medical Control.
  • Maintains communications with Medical Control to assure appropriate medical care.
  • Relays patient information to the appropriate medical facility.
  • Assures safe transportation of the patient enroute to any medical facility.
  • Documents required paperwork and keeps accurate records of all ambulance trips, patient charges, and files accordingly. All EMS charge sheets fully completed and signatures obtained where indicated.
  • All DHR run sheets ("state forms") complete on all ambulance runs without error.
  • Maintains equipment to be utilized in proper working order including ambulance cleanliness and ensuring ambulance is properly stocked with supplies.
  • Checks all equipment on the ambulance daily to assure proper working order. Reports maintenance problems to crew leader or director.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. State approved Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic course.

Certification / License

Valid driver's license. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and applicable state Paramedic certification.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries weight up to 50 pounds. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols with vision and hearing within normal range to respond to Code alerts and equipment alarms. Work-related stress due to volume and time constraints with irregular working hours.

Preferred Job Requirements

Certification / License

National Paramedic Certification Registry, Basic Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Life Support certification.
