Company: Monmouth Cards
Location: On-site โ€ข New Jersey HQ (Monmouth County)
Type: Full-time โ€ข Reports to the CFO
Compensation: $120,000-$150,000 base + performance bonus + benefits
About Monmouth Cards
Monmouth Cards is one of the fastest-growing sports and trading card retailers in the country - 10+ stores across NJ, CT, and MA, a high-volume e-commerce business, live selling (Whatnot, eBay Live, TikTok), marketplaces (eBay, TCGplayer, COMC), and a growing fleet of vending machines and stadium kiosks. We move a lot of high-value inventory across a lot of channels, and we're scaling fast. We need a Controller to bring real financial discipline to a business that has outgrown spreadsheets.
The Role
This is the senior finance hire for Monmouth Cards. Reporting to the CEO, you'll own the entire accounting and finance function - the books, the close, the cash, and the numbers leadership decides on. It's a hands-on, build-it role for someone who likes turning a fast, messy operation into something clean and scalable.
What You'll Own
  • Month-end close and reporting across multiple entities, including consolidations.
  • Inventory accounting and valuation - our hardest, most important number (high velocity, fluctuating values, consignment, grading float).
  • Multi-channel revenue reconciliation across POS, Shopify, live selling, marketplaces, and vending.
  • Gross margin analysis by store, channel, and category.
  • Cash management and treasury (Mercury, Ramp); AP, AR, and payroll.
  • Multi-state sales tax and nexus (NJ, CT, MA, and growing).
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A - the models the business runs on.
  • NetSuite as the financial system of record - lead its rollout and Shopify POS integration, and build scalable processes and controls.
  • Investor and strategic support for financing, M&A, and other initiatives.

What You Bring
  • 5-8 years in accounting/finance, including time as a Controller or Assistant Controller (or a strong Accounting Manager ready to step up).
  • Inventory-heavy retail or e-commerce experience - COGS, inventory valuation, channel reconciliation.
  • Multi-entity accounting and consolidation experience.
  • NetSuite (or a comparable ERP, with the ability to ramp on NetSuite) and advanced Excel.
  • Multi-state sales tax familiarity and a systems-and-automation mindset.
  • Comfort as a self-directed owner in a fast-moving, founder-led environment.
  • CPA preferred (not required for the right candidate).
  • Bonus: trading cards/collectibles, NetSuite implementation, Shopify POS, or M&A/diligence experience.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base: $120,000-$150,000, depending on experience, plus a performance bonus tied to close discipline, margin, and cash/inventory targets.
  • On-site at our NJ headquarters, working directly with the CEO and operations team.
  • Health benefits, paid time off, and meaningful upside as we scale.

Monmouth Cards is an equal opportunity employer.
Compensation: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
Monmouth Cards is one of the fastest-growing names in trading cards and collectibles. We sell across multiple retail locations in NJ, CT, and MA, online through our own store and major marketplaces, and live every week through streaming - meeting collectors wherever they are in the hobby, from first packs to high-end slabs.
What sets us apart is how we operate. We move fast, sweat the details, and treat product knowledge and customer experience as the whole job, not an afterthought. Our team is made up of people who actually care about the hobby and bring real energy to every break, sale, and store visit.
We're at a stage where the work is varied, the pace is quick, and the people who lean in get to grow with us. If you want to be part of building something real in the card space - not just clock in - you'll fit right in here.
