Job Description
Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) - Echo Tech
Position Overview
The Echo Tech performs echocardiography studies to evaluate cardiac structure and function, contributing to diagnostic decisions under the supervision of a cardiologist or lab supervisor.
Works in hospital or outpatient imaging settings to obtain high-quality ultrasound images and prepares findings for interpretation.
Responsibilities
  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms and related imaging procedures
  • Prepare patient, position for optimal image acquisition, and ensure patient safety
  • Assess image quality and adjust equipment to obtain diagnostic studies
  • Document procedure details and preliminary findings for review by clinicians
  • Maintain and inspect ultrasound equipment and manage supply inventory
  • Collaborate with cardiologists and sonographers to support comprehensive evaluation
  • Adhere to radiation safety and infection control policies
Qualifications
Education:
Associate degree or equivalent in cardiovascular technology or diagnostic medical sonography
Licensure:
Licensure or registration as required by state; certification in echocardiography is preferred
Certifications:
  • RDCS or equivalent echocardiography certification
  • CPR/BLS certification
Experience or Skills:
Experience performing echocardiography in a clinical setting; strong patient communication and attention to image quality
Experience
  • 1-3 years performing echocardiography in hospital or outpatient settings
  • Experience using standard ultrasound equipment and vendor-specific interfaces
Preferred
  • Experience with stress echo imaging
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary cardiology team
Work Environment
