Discover After School, founded in 2019, is on a mission to empower children through after-school STEAM exploration. Starting from just after school clubs to before and after-school programs, we blend fun with science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) to spark creativity and innovation. With over 2,000 students reached in Orange County alone, our vision is to expand our impact, opening preschools and fostering community partnerships. Our Mission is to paint a world of possibilities for the next generation through STEAM. Our offerings include before & after school programming, seasonal camp, training & resources, family & community events.


Position Summary:

The Assistant Site Director supports the Site Director in overseeing the daily operations and management of the before and after school program. The Assistant Site Director works to support continuous improvement by defining goals, timelines and securing the resources necessary to achieve optimal performance. This position also assists the Site Director with all administrative functions.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be a support for the director and counselors 
  • Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, absences and emergency information on each child; maintain all other records regarding schedule changes, behavior and incident reports.
  • Effectively supervise and evaluate job performance of counselors.
  • Encourage open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents or co-workers.
  • Present positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants.


Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of management experience / working with children.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Screening
  • Satisfactory Drug Screening


Skills:

  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills in English is required.
  • Bilingual, with proficiency in both English and Spanish is a plus. 
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to communicate at a high level to both children and administration.
  • Ability to problem solve and critically think through daily situations.


Expectations:

  • Be accepting of ALL children, parents, and staff without regard to race, creed, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation.
  • Wear appropriate staff uniform as assigned
  • Report to all scheduled shifts on time
  • Attend all meetings pertinent to this position

  • Oversee and participate in the cleaning and maintaining of facilities, equipment, and all areas used
  • Take care of all supplies, equipment and materials; be respectful of school property; ensure all school rules are followed.

Compensation: 

  • $16 per hour. Pay is biweekly. 


Schedule:

  • August 2026 - May 2027
  • Monday - Friday
  • Morning Care - 6:45AM - 9:00AM
  • After Care - 2:00PM - 6:00PM

Discover After School Seasonal Camp Opportunity Disclosure: 

At Discover After School, our main employment period is from August to June, with seasonal camp opportunities available during breaks. Staffing for camps depends on student enrollment, so not all staff may work during seasonal camp breaks. We conduct a survey at the end of each season to determine who is interested in working seasonal camps. Managers choose top counselors based on their work ethics and reliability, emphasizing factors like attendance and punctuality because camp is a full-day commitment and requires dependable staff. Additionally, we survey employees at the end of the school year to confirm who will return for the next school year. Experience: 

  • 3-6 months' experience in a supervisory position.
  • Experience with Children: 1-2 years (Preferred)
