Entry-level EMTs may earn an hourly wage between $14 and $18. Salaries can be higher in metropolitan areas or for those working in specialized roles or with additional certifications. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EMT, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EMT, you need a basic understanding of emergency medical care, anatomy, and CPR, generally supported by completion of an accredited EMT training program and state certification. New EMTs often encounter challenges such as adjusting to irregular work hours, managing high-stress emergency situations, and developing effective communication skills with both patients and other healthcare professionals.
