Job description

Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) 

Education: High School Diploma (Bachelor’s Degree Preferred)


The Qualified Mental Health Specialist (QMHS) will occupy a dual role with overlapping responsibilities. QMHS will assist with the intake process for onboarding clients and will be responsible for the implementation of individual service plans (ISPs). Personnel in this role will collaborate with the Licensed Social Worker (LSW) to create ISPs and provide services that support client progress. The QMHS will take a therapeutic approach to case management that accounts for clients’ mental state and self-identified needs. They will be responsible for tracking and recording client progress through case management notes and monthly reports.

The QMHS will be responsible for a caseload of 10-15 clients. They will provide mental health services to dual clients and be responsible for coordinating therapy/counseling sessions with the LSW. The QMHS will routinely meet with their clients to assess their progress and address their needs/concerns as they arise. They will be responsible for completing notes for their clients and submitting them to the LISW by 5:00 pm each Friday. The QMHS will also submit monthly client reports to the LSW for review. QMHS will be responsible for connecting clients to community resources as necessary and advocating on their behalf. The QMHS will meet regularly with the Licensed Social Worker and the LISW to ensure effective communication and collaboration. This position reports directly to the LISW.


The QMHS is responsible for:

  • Providing case management services
  • Hosting group counseling sessions
  • Conducting Behavioral assessments
  • Monitor treatment progress and mental status of program participants
  • Providing case management services to clients
  • Maintain accurate written records for program participants
  • Providing regular reports on the services provided to clients and client progress



QMHS requirements and qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of mental health terms and methods of practice
  • Experience working with clients struggling with mental health, substance abuse, and/or
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • An understanding of emotional intelligence and empathy
  • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills along with the ability to learn new skills and/or program
  • Maintain a current and valid Ohio or Michigan driver’s license, a good driving record, adequate insurance, and be willing to use a personal car to perform job duties.
  • Maintain a current and valid QMHS certification
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Successfully completion of all required criminal background check and drug test


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: QMHS

  1. Standing: Maintaining an upright position on the feet, especially for prolonged periods of time
  2. Pushing: Applying pressure and exerting force against an object for the purpose of moving it forward or away from the source of the force – push or pull force up to 35 lbs.
  3. Lifting: Raising an object from a lower to a higher position, or moving an object laterally, from position to position-Required to lift up-to 50lbs of force independently. May be required to lift over 50lbs with assistance of another person or a mechanical lift.
  4. Stooping: Bending the body forward and down from the waist, hips and knees, sometimes for a prolonged length of time.
  5. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction away from the body
  6. Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or moving surfaces
  7. Ability to safely operate a personal motor vehicle on a weekly basis and comply with the Company’s Vehicle Safety Program
